Good Times: The Complete Series
Good Times hit the airwaves on February 8, 1974 as a mid-season replacement and quickly became a Top 10 hit for CBS. A breakthrough show for American television, Good Times struck a chord with audiences by tackling controversial subjects from a uniquely African-American perspective and was rewarded over the course of its 133-episode run with three Golden Globe® Awards. The show also made a star of jive-talkin’ comedian Jimmie Walker whose catch phrase “DY-NO-MITE!” became part of ‘70s pop culture. Good Times: The Complete Series includes all six seasons of the classic ‘70s comedy on 17 discs.
SYNOPSIS
Good Times focuses on the poor but proud Evans family living in the projects on the south side of Chicago. Parents Florinda (Esther Rolle) and James Evans (John Amos) struggle to provide for the family, with sons J.J. (Jimmie Walker), an aspiring painter, and Michael (Ralph Carter), an undying political crusader, constantly causing trouble. All the while, daughter Thelma (BernNadette Stains) stands among them as the voice of reason. The family may struggle against adversity, but they still manage to keep their heads held high with a good sense of humor.
Broadcast Year: 1974-1979 (CBS)
NewsRadio: The Complete Series
Following its debut on NBC on March 21, 1995, NewsRadio won praise as one of the wittiest sitcoms of the ‘90s. Nominated for three Emmy® Awards (winning one) over the course of its 5-season, 97-episode run, the series was created and written by Paul Simms (TV’s “The Larry Sanders Show”) and executive-produced by Bernie Brillstein (The Replacement Killers, TV’s “Just Shoot Me”) and Brad Grey (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, TV’s “Just Shoot Me”). NewsRadio’s top-notch writing lampooned the often ridiculous situations inherent in office politics and the media’s corporate world. All five seasons are included on 15 discs.
SYNOPSIS
Dave Nelson (Dave Foley), an eager beaver from Wisconsin, moves to New York City to take over the News Director job at WNYX. All eyes are on Dave as he struggles to assert his authority and command the respect of his quirky co-workers. Hardworking news writer Lisa Miller (Maura Tierney) resents Dave for taking the job she assumed would be hers; anchors Bill McNeal (Phil Hartman) and Catherine Duke (Khandi Alexander) need constant refereeing and ego-stroking while clueless station owner Jimmy James (Stephen Root) is an eccentric billionaire who can’t handle confrontation. Slacker secretary Beth (Vicki Lewis), accident-prone street reporter Matthew Brock (Andy Dick) and Joe Garelli (Joe Rogan), the resident electrician and conspiracy theorist, round out the newsroom.
Broadcast Year: 1995-1999 (NBC)
Sanford and Son: The Complete Series
An instant success when it debuted in 1972, Sanford and Son marked an early milestone in urban TV comedy. As the first sitcom featuring an African-American cast, Sanford and Son pioneered edgy, racial humor that reflected the changing politics of the time and helped to redefine the genre of situation comedy. One of the ‘70s highest rated shows, this sitcom from legendary producer Norman Lear (“All In The Family,” “The Jeffersons”) earned a total of seven Emmy Award® nominations and five Golden Globe® nominations. Sanford and Son: The Complete Series includes all six seasons of the hit ‘70s classic on 18 discs.

The two have crazy moments, from a fake robbery to a discovered suitcase full of money, to Fred’s continued fake heart attacks – “Oh, this time its real, I’m a-comin’ Lizabeth!”
