THE OUTER LIMITS
THE ORIGINAL SERIES COMPLETE BOX SET

Celebrate the 45th Anniversary of the Mind-Bending Classic Series on DVD October 21

LOS ANGELES, CA – MGM Home Entertainment controls all that you see and hear when The Outer Limits Original Series Complete Box Set DVD invades homes on October 21, 2008. Hailed as “the best program of its type to ever run on network TV” by acclaimed author Stephen King, this sci-fi fantasy original series ignited the imagination of viewers with the help of such distinguished guest star appearances by Academy Award WinnerÒ Robert Duvall (Tender Mercies), Adam West (“Batman”), Eddie Albert (“Green Acres”) and Star Trek alumni William Shatner, Leonard Nimoy and James Doohan. The 1960s debut of the macabre series broke new ground by blurring the line between fact and fiction with dark introspective storylines. Fans became hooked as the series continued to challenge the human mind by making the unbelievable seem like a terrifying reality. As television’s longest running science-fiction anthology, “The Outer Limits” has garnered several awards, including four Cable Ace Awards, two Gemini Awards and two Saturn Awards. Featuring seven-discs, The Outer Limits Original Series Complete Box Set contains the complete classic series, including all 49 episodes for a suggested retail price of $59.98.

Re: MGM Press Release: The Outer Limits: The Original Series Complete Box Set

Ronald,

Thanks for the information.

If the 49 episodes included in this boxed set were single-sided discs, I would not hesitate to double-dip, since there are few shows that I love as much as the original series (1963-65) The Outer Limits. But looking at the information as is (and esp. the number of discs included in the set), I've got to think that this set is virtually the same as the MGM release of a few years ago (in two seasons).

I got this too, a few years back. Don't see any reason to double dip.

yeah, I guess I'll keep my current discs too. Not even mention of fancy packaging to make it worth the upgrade.

What Scott said. I dont even have the second season right now, cause i couldnt find a set that worked. So this is a pass.

Re: MGM Press Release: The Outer Limits: The Original Series Complete Box Set

I have both of the original season boxes. My season 2 never has had any problems playing, even in different players. I got both sets used at a Media Play in their used bin. Unless MGM actually remasters these with newer technology and (as mentioned) puts them on single sided discs I'll keep what I have. I hate flipper discs. You can never tell which side you're getting without using a microscope to read the inner ring.
There's so much potential for extras that would make this a "special anniversary edition". The unaired pilot PLEASE STAND BY and the spinoff THE UNKNOWN, interviews with surviving cast and crew (Culp,Landau,Duval,Frontiere, etc.) and the interviews that Turner channels ran during their OL Marathons of the early 90s. Maybe they could even include La La Land's 3 CD OL soundtrack release as a bonus.
Not to mention remastering and making them single sided discs.

I very much want a single-sided disc set of this series. If I had the equipment, I would do it myself. But I don't. Maybe one day I will get around to doing this.

Hey MGM! Instead of re-releasing this series for a 3rd time. You finish releasing the remake show?

Bring back John Doe! Or at least resolve the cliff-hanger with a 2hr movie or as an extra on a dvd release.

That's a good point. I've been waiting for the second season for a long time.

THE OUTER LIMITS - THE 'DEFINITIVE' EDITION!!!!!

THE OUTER LIMITS has got to be my all-time favourite SF tv series immediately followed by THE TWILIGHT ZONE and THE INVADERS albeit the differences in their consumate quality is neglibile. They are all formidable heavyweights and still immensely popular...especially with the all-important younger aged DVD consumer demographic!

However this is merely a third reissue of the selfsame doublesided DVD-18s with absolutely no improvements.

How about all 49 black-and-white hour long episodes being fully restored and digitally remastered from the original 35mm print negatives to absolutely pristine condition and presented in their entireties? Oh yes, on singlesided disc pressings!

Plus the inclusion of:

* The unaired pilots PLEASE STAND BY (ABC 1962) and THE UNKNOWN (ABC 1964).

* The original "The New ABC Television" primetime preview of "The Galaxy Being" (16/09/1963).

* The original ABC Television Network promos for both the first (1963-64) and second (1964-65) seasons.

* The original next week previews aired with the initial three first season episodes telecast.

* Audio commentaries and oncamera interviews with any surviving Daystar production personnel and featured guest performers.

* Audio commentaries and oncamera interviews with Harlan Ellison discussing "Soldier" (19/09/1964) and "Demon with a Glass Hand" (17/10/1964).

A lot of these people like Harlan Ellison, Cliff Robertson, Martin Landau, David McCallum, Leonard Nimoy, Ed Asner, Robert Culp, Michael Ansara, Mark Richman and whomever are still around and more than willing to participate. So what's the hold up on this?!

Let's do something really significant and worthwhile.

I would buy this in a snapflash! So would likely a good many other devout OL fans.

Jeff T.

THE INVADERS starring Roy Thinnes belongs in a DVD Collection.

Let them land!
