Re: The Fugitive, Season Two Volume 1 - Reviews
Gary OS's post is completely accurate. I spoke to some people who knew what was going on, but was afraid to post here because I was slapped on the hand for a couple of my posts, but we've been proven correct now. I'm told it's around five cues that were in question, just as Gary OS states.

Re: The Fugitive, Season Two Volume 1 - Reviews
I think perhaps this question was addressed in an earlier post in this mile-long thread, but I don't recall seeing a definitive answer:
Why do we find music from the CBS Music Library showing up in a show ("The Fugitive") that aired on ABC?
Was CBS in the habit of loaning their Music Library to other networks?

I recall reading somewhere - either the soundtrack CD liner notes, or in THE FUGITIVE RECAPTURED - that the CBS music library was something of a coup, and that THE FUGITIVE was the first "other network" show to utilize it.

Re: The Fugitive, Season Two Volume 1 - Reviews
So in essence, if CBS DVD/Paramount Home Video want to regain consumer trust and guarantee future sales, they need to fix the mess they've made of The Fugitive season 2 (by reissuing a fixed version as a complete season I would suggest). That way I think they'd be sure to see huge sales for all releases from this series.
What they've done with this release is utterly shameful, dishonest and what's worse is they've underminded any trust I have in the company as a consumer. I'm going to have to carefully research every product I buy from them from now on (which will mean multiple lost sales for them for dvd sets I otherwise would've purchased on impulse) as how can I trust a company that does this? Trust in a brand and company is something that should be protected and honored above all else in my opinion.

I said it before and I'll say it again. A fix is needed here. A complete second season of The Fugitive needs to be out for the hollidays. Let Dr. Kimble get caught. (In the Christmas shopping rush, that is.)

Re: The Fugitive, Season Two Volume 1 - Reviews
I forgave them for their butchery to Gomer Pyle because I understood it (although I hate it and still cringe when I see a butchered episode).
But I don't forgive them for THE FUGITIVE, because they have yet to make me understand it (because they can't; it wasn't justified).

And if Paramount is through with retreating and "pulling their wagons in a circle" in the aftermath of a considerable amount of customer dissatisfaction leveled against them and is willing to be proactive and admit their huge gaff, they'd do their level best to restore consumer confidence by releasing a corrected set post haste. Because I believe that you, me and a legion of classic tv consumers have been sufficiently burned by this that we'll be wary of future announcements--which certainly won't benefit Paramount where sales are concerned.
I'm so disappointed by this that from now on I will only purchase sets after Amazon posts reviews.
And yes, I was upset over Gomer Pyle as well, David, especially where S4 is concerned after reading early reviews. I actually intended to boycott it--but I have a 7 year old who is bonkers for the series.

Re: The Fugitive, Season Two Volume 1 - Reviews
I've never been enamored with CBS DVD/Video. They were horrible to do business with back in the Columbia House days. When they were issuing DVDs exclusively through there, they could care less about picture quality or things like that; DVDs were off video masters or 16 mm prints, some complete, some not; what did it matter to them. And one DVD with 6 episodes on it cost $25.99 + tax + shipping.
Now they've switched their business to Paramount, trying to do business direct through stores and whatnot. However, they've never lost that philosophy of gauging as much out of the consumer as they possibly can. They virtually patented the split-season release; why net get the price of two seasons out of one? They think nothing of cutting out music if it saves them a buck or two today or years down the road. Their only positive, besides releasing these shows, is picture quality, and even that seems to slide for some shows as the seasons get further along.
It's a shame that they are really the only game in town when it comes to releasing these classic TV shows. Probably why a lot have had high feelings for them, for at least they're getting them out there. But to see the sort of people you're really dealing with, just look back; it's not pretty. They had virtually no costumer relations back then, and today they still don't.

After what they've done to THE FUGITIVE, I'm not all that charitable towards CBS/Paramount, but feel a few of the statements made aren't quite fair.

Columbia House was its own entity with little or nothing to do with CBS, other than licensing programs. What Columbia got in terms of prints, or what they settled for is another matter.

If memory serves, it was 20th Century Fox Home Video who began the split season philosophy when their sales of LOST IN SPACE season one went sour. Since then all of their Irwin Allen sets have been half-seasons (with the exception of the LOTG megaset).

Can't argue there - it's the reason they're in the hot water they're in.

Re: The Fugitive, Season Two Volume 1 - Reviews
While I'm not a fan of The Fugitive, I have been following this story and I think that this is a powerful lesson for CBS/Paramount and the other studios. This has really come back to bit them in the ass. I feel bad for all of the Fugitive fans out there. What a travesty. Everyone is right in saying that CBS/Paramount needs to do some serious damage control here. They also need to fix these dics and re-issue the set and offer an exchange for the folks that have already purchased the set.
This makes me quesion my purchasing any future releases by CBS/Paramount. I've lost a bit of trust in them.

Re: The Fugitive, Season Two Volume 1 - Reviews
Columbia House was the distribution arm of CBS DVD, much as Paramount is today. CBS was actually behind these disks. Otherwise, how could the exact same disks that you'd get from Columbia House for Rawhide and Have Gun-Will Travel are what you find in the CBS/Paramount releases of Rawhide Season 1 and Have Gun-Will Travel Season 1-3? Same menus, same episode transfers.

Re: The Fugitive, Season Two Volume 1 - Reviews
The original single-volume Twilight Zone DVDs (distributed by Image) featured the same "title and airdate" cards that were found on both the Columbia House VHS tapes and the CBS retail VHS tapes, which strongly implied that the same transfers were used in the transition to DVD. Pissed me off to no end, I must say. CBS has been foisting less-than-stellar product on us for years.
However.... the Twilight Zone Definitive Editions are truly spectacular, proving that they CAN get things right when they want to. Maybe they'll get The Fugitive right on the second or third time around. ;-)
