shouldn't 3/4 a season be 3/4 the price?

We have all seen the mass Buena Vista rollout for the fall on TSOD today. Considering every show listed has an abbreviated season due to the strike, shouldn't it make sense for shows like Grey's, Lost, Desperate Housewives and the like to maybe list for 49.99 or 39.99 instead of the 59.99 that full seasons go for? Disney is not Fox or Warner Bros. in the sense of doing 17.99 specials, so I think that with less bang for the buck, as well as a recession, that all of these sets are going to sell considerably less than prior seasons because 16 episodes for Grey's season 4 for the same price as 27 episodes for season 2 (and keep in mind season 2 is regarded as a far better season) is not attractive to a lot of wallet-conscious consumers.

Re: shouldn't 3/4 a season be 3/4 the price?

TV season boxed set pricing is deranged, and quite a bad gouge in some cases.

For example I just picked up all 3 seasons of "The Office". Each was $20. However the first season had a mere six episodes! And it's the same price as the 20+ episode runs of the other seasons.

Yes, it should be discounted, but they won't. They know they can gouge and most folk will pay. The amount of money they lose is more than made up for by the fact they're selling 3/4 of a season for full price, essentially selling less for more.

The Office is a Universal show. They tried to charge $30 for a six-episode first season of Kate & Allie.

Bring back John Doe! Or at least resolve the cliff-hanger with a 2hr movie or as an extra on a dvd release.

Re: shouldn't 3/4 a season be 3/4 the price?

I figured the $20 per season... For 2 and 3 it's a great deal, so I just sucked it up for the first season just to have them all, as $20 isn't TOO outlandish. I mean it's 2 hours 15 minutes running time. Movie length. $20 is a movie price. However I have seen season 1 for over $40 which is just bloody nutsoid. Dreading what season 4 will cost since I guess I'm on the hamster wheel now for this. (Only other current show I'm on the wheel with is Scrubs.)

Using The Office as the comparison doesn't make much of a point. The Office Season 1 was ate regular price, but the other 2 were discounted from the normal price they are sold at, which is usually between $30 and $40.

I agree with the title of the thread but I'll try to remember that I pay $15 to $20 for a 2 hour movie and Lost: Season Four will have more than 10 hours of content and it will be about $40.

Of course, it's best to not think that I also spent $40 for Lost: S3 and got 9 more episodes on that set than I will for S4.
