Re: Desi Arnaz curses in I LOVE LUCY!
You are totally dumb regarding early tv, if the show was filmed on 35mm which it was and meaning there was no replay available and the scene was a very vocal and noisy one there was no way it could have been caught and redone. Hellooooooo they quite possibly did not pick up on it until after the film was processed as the show was filmed I think on Friday nights or Thursday, the film would not be sent out to processing until the week later, So tell me rocket scientists how they would have realixed there might have been a blooper until the film was seen after processing. I think we are facing a situation where Desilu said send it out because dopes out there would think he said "darn" because of Desi's accent!
You people are pathetic, you profess to know about early tv but do not even realize they did not videotape the show so it is possible that no one realized it even occured.
Geez!
Well I am content that is "damn right" I have now had a couple of more people see the show at my home and at theirs and say they clearly hear it as "damn" plus with the poster here who provided the sound is the icing on the cake. TV history might now be rewritten and you people are just mad you did not hear it first! : )

I don't buy that one either, sorry. Sure, the sneeze can sound like "Oh Sh*T", but it's probably really just a "aachooottt" that sounds like that (interesting, too, is that both Lugosi and Desi Arnaz have accents!).
I'd lean to Bela's "blooper" being authentic before I'd even consider Arnaz saying "damn", though. Sometimes people hear what they want.

Re: Desi Arnaz curses in I LOVE LUCY!
Hey Joe you hit the nail on the head, people hear what they want just as I am hearing it one way others are hearing it another. So everyone will get funny with the wisecracks to put the other person down for their beliefs. Seems that why our country is in the mess it is in, no one can say anthying with out being made fun of or told to say they are sorry. I guess what we need is a voice analysis of the line to see what it is.
But in moving on to other threads I stand by what I hear and my friends too who have now heard it and move on to more thoughts!

You are the one who knows nothing about early TV. Bloopers of this type would be caught AFTER the film is processed during the post-production editing and sound mixing. Do you think all the music and other effects in the show were done live at the time of the filming? How would they be able to dub in music and not be able to dub in a line of dialogue? You can hear what you want but with all of the time and effort that went into this show and into the DVD releases, there is no way that this would have gone by without being corrected. Continue to hear what you wish, but do not make uninformed comments regarding how television programs were filmed and edited.

Also, consider that it you are the one and only person after 50+ years to just now suddenly discover this "lost blooper", then chances are more likely you're mistaken.

Re: Desi Arnaz curses in I LOVE LUCY!
Hey Gary, you better hit the books, I guess you spent your school days in the corner with the dunce hat on your head. I have had the Bart Andrews I Love Lucy book since its first printing in the late 1970's in fact in I aced an A on my book report on the book!
So you need to sit down with Andrews book and learn about how I love Lucy was filmed and rehearsed, how little time they had to after the filming get the show out to the CBS stations for airing, then come back to this thread and tell us how I Love Lucy, THE pionering three camera show was filmed and then maybe your brain will tell you to say things only when you are informed!
I guess your screen name gives us a clue is the "16" your age, with age comes wisdom so that would explain your lack of it!

Re: Desi Arnaz curses in I LOVE LUCY!
1.) "I Love Lucy" has many instances of obviously post-dubbed dialogue. There are even some instances of close-ups that were filmed at a later point, e.g., when Lucy discovers that John Wayne's cement block is loose. The lighting and sound levels clearly change.
2.) Every time I listen to that sound bite, I clearly hear "darned," which is obviously what he said.
3.) Case closed. Now it's time to move on to something else.

I'm sure a thorough book on I LOVE LUCY would highlight the blooper situation in that episode, hmmm?

Whoops, I didn't see the second page, so I need to respond to this.
You have no clue, to use your own way of responding, as to how this show was filmed. Do you think they didn't watch it? It had to be edited and scored and I'm sure many people saw it. As soon as they heard Desi say "damn" he'd have been called in to dub "darn," and as the head of the biggest TV studio in Hollywood at that time he would be "darn" sure to do it so CBS' standards dept. wouldn't get mad at him.
Do you think you're going to be famous because you've discovered this? Give up the dream. And your 15 minutes of fame on this message board ended quite a while ago. You're wrong; totally wrong; 100% wrong; incredibly wrong; obscenely wrong; and you're only making a fool of yourself by continuing this.
I'm also glad you wrote about Lugosi saying "sh*t". Of course Lugosi did no such thing, and everyone knows it. So that proves you're gullible and for some mysterious reason need to think actors curse in old movies and TV shows. You need to talk to someone about that.

Re: Desi Arnaz curses in I LOVE LUCY!
Hey Joe I do not need this to be right to be famous, lets be totally honest, I have one book published and on the market for 4 years, about the Macy's Parade which has done quite well and I am working on my second book, I worked with Fox on their Special Edition of MIRACLE ON 34TH STREET in 2006 so I don't need to be famous, what have you done lately. And I hope to work with them on a future tv dvd release.
You and other posters seem to lurk on this here board spouting what you know to be your truth, the minute someone says something you do not agree with you get your underoos in a wedgie.
Read the I LOVE LUCY book then come back here and again what have you done in the entertainment industry?
Let's contact Jesse Oppenhiemer's son on this, I will try to contact him ASAP.

He is such a cool guy, he will probably say "no the called my dad Mr. Oppenheimer" not like the pompous wannabees Mr. Karlosi and Mr Lugoff.
