Why is there only odd episodes of Lassie on DVD?

Lassie is one of the all time classic TV series. And yet only a few episodes of this classic have been released on DVD so far. The recently found episode in colour of Jeff's Collie was interesting. Is there any chance of this series being released in season sets from the beginning?

My Understanding is that there are rights issues and Lassie is currently in negotiations to bring all her show's to DVD, I believe it's in Animal Court Right now.

Its' a 50s-60s show. It's just one of many that should be out that isn't.

Re: Why is there only odd episodes of Lassie on DVD?

It probably is a rights dispute between the current owner of the properties (multiple TV shows and movies) and the current owner/trainer of Lassie and the Lassie line. IIRC there was a Lassie show on Animal Planet in the late 90s or so. The 1st season featured the actual Lassie dog (descendent of Pal, the original collie in "Lassie Come Home") but then there there was a dispute and the producers continued the show with another collie from another trainer. Also the prints from the 50s and 60s need severe fixing. The last time I saw the ranger episodes (from the mid 60s) on Discovery Kids the color was faded badly and the whole show was time compressed, and there probably were cut scenes. No one is going to fork out money for junk like that.

Re: Why is there only odd episodes of Lassie on DVD?

I bought the Lassie 50th Anniversary DVD set a few years back and was disappointed in the quality of the prints. I figured that a 50th Anniversary set would be given special treatment and have the best prints possible...boy was I wrong. While watchable, the prints were far from acceptable in my book.
The closing music on many episodes of "Jeff's Collie" had a wavy or unbalanced sound.
Every "Timmy and Lassie" episode in this set, opened with the same 1959 opening, even if it was a 1960 or 1962 episode.
The "color years" episodes were washed out and the show openings were mismatched.
The only saving grace for this DVD set was that the episodes chosen were the best. The included booklet was pretty good too.

I understand your post was a joke, but some the rights dispute may actually be real between the show owner and the dog owner, at least in regards to some of the more current programs. The rights to the 50s and 60s shows probably aren't in dispute but the prints need a lot of work.
