Dick Van Dyke Show DVD's Help!

OK, Guys,

I need a little advice here.

Should I get the 5 Individual seasons Dick Van Dyke Show box sets, or the complete Seasons Box?

I've read there are some issues with the Complete Seasons box set that has the dreaded syrupy clear slime on the DVD's?

Is there any extra content in the Complete Season Box? Better packaging, etc?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I bought the complete series box several years back when it first came out and the DVDs physically look fine to me. There are no extra features that were not in the individual season sets. It is packaged in a thin cardboard box with 25 discs in individual slimpac cases. Probably a little less shelf space than the indivual seasons would take but not as condensed as it could have been if they had doulbled up with 2 discs per slimpac.

The content is identical, so I would go with whatever way you can get it cheapest. But definitely get it... it's awesome.

The content, as mentioned above, is identical (except for the booklets). The Complete Series set has a thicker booklet, covering all 5 seasons....whereas the individual sets each have a smaller four-page booklet/brochure that features just that particular season.

But I would definitely recommend the individual season sets over the bulkier "Complete" collection.

The "Complete" set is packed in a large slipcase box, which isn't really very thick or sturdy, and the discs are very hard to get out of the darn thing. (And the thin box can also get damaged easily in shipping...mine was dented all to hell, which I hate with a passion.)

Go "individual". IMHO. (But if you're on a tight budget, the Complete Set is cheaper for sure.)

Hadn't heard about the "syrupy slime", but some of the V.Dyke discs do suffer from "Foggy Bottoms". (They still play fine, even with fogged-up rear ends though.)

More on that mystery HERE.
