Gunsmoke S2 Disc One episode error

Amidst all the complaints about half-seasons and the high price, comes the fact that the show on Disc One called "How To Cure A Friend" is actually a show from Season Four called "How To Kill A Friend."

"How To Cure A Friend" aired 11/10/1956 and starred the actor Andrew Duggan.

"How To Kill A Friend" aired 11/22/1958 and, ironically, involved a character named "Harry Duggan."

Someone was a little careless and switched the similarly titled shows from Season Two and Season Four. What caught my eye was "MCMLVIII" on the end title. 1958 shouldn't have been in a Season Two set!

Looks like a replacement disc will be due all buyers from Paramount.

I haven't looked at Discs 2 or 3 yet. Fingers-crossed.

Thanks for the tip. Although it seems that Paramount will just include the "lost" episode on Volume 2. And it does give them incentive to get Volume 2 out promptly.

Re: Gunsmoke S2 Disc One episode error

Two good points!

It never dawned on me that they could save the expense of a recall/disc swap by simply putting the missing episode in Volume 2. Of course, purists might gripe that they want all their Gunsmoke episode ducks-in-a-row.

And, yes, S2 Vol 2 in a hurry would be very sweet.

Unfortunately, one Gunsmoke season a year (at this rate) will mean DVD's will be obsolete in 19 years...long before the series is complete...on home video.

I'm surprised to hear about the episode error. When CBS released these episodes unremastered through Columbia House 5 years back, they did have the correct episode, "How to Cure a Friend."

I wonder what, if anything, they'll do.

The packaging of Gunsmoke S. 2 V. 1 also describes the correct episode, "How to Cure a Friend."

If they ever get to the fourth season, maybe we'll see "How to Cure a Friend" in place of "How to Kill a Friend."

I had to send my Gunsmoke set back to Amazon. It came with a big gouge in disc #1 that makes it freeze in many spots. I hesitate to think how many of my unopened box sets have this issue.

The discs in S2V1 GUNSMOKE have very poor quality control, as compared to Season 1.

Disc 3 of two sets (purchased at different stores) both have scratches similar to discs that have come loose and rattled around in the case against the hub...only these discs were firmly on the hubs. So, I presume it was siesta time in Mexico when Season 2 was being packaged.

I'd expect this from those $1 DVDs at Walgreens, but not from expensive split-season studio releases. They should be "pristine" DVDs!
