Gunsmoke S2 Disc One episode error

(I'm in the wrong thread with this, sorry!)

Amidst all the complaints about half-seasons and the high price, comes the fact that the show on Disc One called "How To Cure A Friend" is actually a show from Season Four called "How To Kill A Friend."

"How To Cure A Friend" aired 11/10/1956 and starred the actor Andrew Duggan.

"How To Kill A Friend" aired 11/22/1958 and, ironically, involved a character named "Harry Duggan."

Someone was a little careless and switched the similarly titled shows from Season Two and Season Four. What caught my eye was "MCMLVIII" on the end title. 1958 shouldn't have been in a Season Two set!

Looks like a replacement disc will be due all buyers from Paramount.

I haven't looked at Discs 2 or 3 yet. Fingers-crossed.

Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain!

Oh Great C'mon Paramount, I'll check my disk tonight. Also on the back of the box is the Dreaded "Some episodes may have been editted from the Network Original" well I guess they were if a Season 2 episode became a season 4 episode !

Does anyone know what if anything has been editted?

The half-hour "Gunsmoke" was one of the few series ("Father Knows Best" being another; and we're discussing this issue in that thread) that had some years of primetime network reruns. (CBS started showing the half-hour reruns the year "Gunsmoke" went to an hour; they called the reruns "Marshal Dillon".)

It's possible that a half-minute was cut from the shows for these reruns; or at least that something might have been cut. It's also likely that the cut versions are all that exist now.

I'm just guessing at this, of course, but it might explain the disclaimer.

Re: Gunsmoke S2 Disc One episode error

This release isn't doing so well as compared to the complete first season on the Amazon rankings. I remember a week after the first season came out, it's Amazon ranking was in the upper 300s. A week after S.2 V.1 comes out, it's currently 1,506, heading to Rawhide S.2 V.1/2 territory fast. I guess a lot of people stayed away from this one. They're justified. What was CBS/Paramount thinking releasing Gunsmoke as half-season sets and then pricing them the same way they priced the complete first season set? S.2. V.1 currently has a 2 star customer rating on Amazon precisely because of this. Unless they go back to complete season sets, I doubt this series will ever get to a season 4. Sales won't be there.

I was afraid of this, I doubt we'll see vol. 2. Same thing killed Big Valley.
