What are ipod ready dvds?

This may be a stupid question but I noticed a couple cheapo discs with ipod ready dvd on the package, what exactly is it?
Is it just a dvd with formatted picture to fit the ipod screen or without copy protection so you can rip and transfer it?

Just wondering since I just got a ipod classic 80 gb as a Christmas gift.
Thanks!

Re: What are ipod ready dvds?

The front of the DVD packaging says it includes a “video iPod ready disc,” which has video files that you can “Drag and drop straight to your iPod video.”

It means that you don't have to engage in the technical or legal hassles of ripping the discs and reencoding them.

Yeah I see now, that's what I figured. It's just public domain stuff. Thanks.

It usually means that theres a video file for the mpeg4 format Ipoo's oops Ipod's use, but almost any dvd mpeg1 format can be convert to the mpeg4 there are several programs out there that can do that from your legal owned dvds.

Q: Why do you care?

A: You'll never know.
