Has anyone sold season sets when found out series sets are coming?

Yes, I have with my Mash sets, Seinfeld, and just recently my STNG and my Land of the LOST was at a loss cause I had bought it with 2 discs scratched cause of broken tabs in the case. They played awful. Of course I couldn't replace discs.

Mash had a great box set including an extra disc. Seinfeld series set looks promising.

I did this with Alias but i can't really be bothered to much of a hassle to me. I just wish studios would offer the packaging for sale to those that supported the releases all along.

I do that with video games. I have never tried it with DVDs. I wonder if this will work.

But I guess you don't get much money or credit in exchange.

with the amount of cash offered for exchanges around here, I'd give the extra set away as a gift to a pal.

Re: Has anyone sold season sets when found out series sets are coming?

After spending Time and Money waiting for a set to become complete, why should I get rid of it and spend MORE money just to re-purchase it? If it ain't broke don't fix it!

On the other hand, if I haven't bought anything from that series, and I can get a Complete set CHEAPER than just purchasing it piecemeal. then I'll go for it! (As I did for Macgyver, Knight Rider, Roswell & 21 Jump Street. ) I also bought all 3 seasons of Wonder Woman, but this was because I was able to get them for $9.99 each during a Sale!

DVD Inventory: TV Show Episodes: 7437. Movies: 400. Serial Chapters: 413.

I did this with Buffy the Vampire Slayer, sold season sets on ebay then bought the collection. Pretty much a wash for cost but I got a snappy looking box set that took up a fraction of the space.

I'd never sell individual volumes if it was going to cost more to repurchase the set, but sometimes, you can offload your individual volumes and save a bundle buy buying sets.

Although not "season sets", I did this with series four of Lexx. a little while after individual volumes were being released, they started selling 3-volume slipcovered sets at a very attractive discount. I was able to eBay all of the individual volumes I had amassed (which was a fair number of them), buy the boxsets, and saved myself more than $10 per boxset (which amounted to a savings of about $30-40, if I remember correctly). Not a bad trade!

So, yes, I've done it and would do it again, but only when it works out to my financial advantage. No way would I double-dip over something so trivial as a packaging change.

Did it with
Alias 1-4
Buffy 1-7 most were upopened
Gilmore Girls 1-6 season 6 was still sealed
O.C. 1 and 2

--- replaced my Dark Angel with slim packs and actually made more then the cost of what I paid for the slim

also sold Smallville 1-4 because I think it will get a complete set
