Thanks Eric. I just wrote to WB and asked them to delay the release of the 3rd Collection until they could include the missing shorts. And I told them that I will be cancelling my pre-order at Amazon.ca until they fix this.....

Eric,

I was not stating to buy this because the numbers have to be right for them to look at this again. what i was trying to state is the three different releases, and all three have had issues that should have been taken care of long before the disc hit the shelves. as for having Maltin do the disclaimer instead of whoopi i dont like that idea, hell get spike lee to do it he loves controversy, look at the cover for bamboozled, released by the other company that WB has New Line.

Re: Special Announcement regarding the third Tom & Jerry Spotlight Collection

Perhaps WB releases these sets the way they do intentionally. They know that a certain number of harcore collectors will insist on having the cut material restored so they appease the callers of the special 800 number with an unedited replacement and shut us up. Meanwhile, the edited versions of the first two Spotlight Collections remain the available versions stocked on store shelves with no attempt to recall the edited for the unedited. The general public is either unaware or unconcerned about the edits or the replacement program. So as far as WB is concerned, everybody wins: they haven't put a collection on the shelves that offends anybody and the completists who complain can get an unedited replacement version with a free phone call. It's possible they'll use this same tactic with Volume 3, since they've done it with the first two.

Re: Special Announcement regarding the third Tom & Jerry Spotlight Collection

I ordered the Tom & Jerry before I heard about the "missing cartoons". I also ordered something else. In the order confirmation - it mentioned it would be sent the next day! This has never happened before! The next day is when I got the order being shipped confirmation. I then heard about the missing cartoons. I suspect that I could not change the order circa an hour after making the originally order. I suspect that AMAZON knew something and acted promptly so that they would not lose orders. I am very happy with the 23 responses for the T&J #3 - there were many angry replies- mostly 1 star. My order is probably somewhere around New Zealand (for months now, Amazon ships to Germany via New Zealand!!!?

In another forum, someone from the UK stated "Hey, if you saw the abominations that WHV have released of T&J over here on R2 in the UK, you guys would be thanking your lucky stars you got as good a set as you did." I sort of agree with that statement.

The 10 DVD set "Tom & Jerry - The Classic Collection" (in GB it was 5 double sided DVDs) was horrible done - cut and cut and modified. I have sort of "double dipped" by getting the R1 NTSC sets. Even with the worts, the R1 versions are much better than what was sold in England/German/France etc (and probably Australia). There was also at least one cartoon missing from that set. Disks 10-12 had the cartoons from Jones & Deitch. Does anyone in the PAL land know if these cartoons are edited????

In some forum someone stated that cartoons MOUSE CLEANING (#3) and CASANOVA CAT (#5) are in the R2 Classic collection and were unedited - they are on disks 3 and 5. I looked at the You-tube cartoons and then on my DVD - and as the poster stated - they not modified in the classic collection !!!!! Almost everything else is. I must say, having looked at the 2 cartoons - I can't see why some stupid manager thought that they were especially bad!

Keep sending complaints to Amazon.com located at:

Re: Special Announcement regarding the third Tom & Jerry Spotlight Collection

Since I do want to have these cartoons and this is the only way to have them, I did not cancel my preorder.

So I have had a chance to look at the DVD. I've been concentrating on the cinemascope shorts on disc 2 which are fantastic for the most part.

But there is an exception, The "Puppy Picnic" one (not sure if that is the verbatim title) starts out with credits in the proper Cinemascope ratio but then the body of the cartoon is cropped to 16:9, which is not as bad as 4:3 but geez! The rest of the Cinemascope cartoons are all proper Cinemascope width.

I also scanned through the docmentary on the disc. Imagine my surprise when they actually showed part of the Tom's coal blackface clip from "Mouse Cleaning" in the part where they are talking about the racial humor.

Oh yeah, you also get assualted with the "These cartoons are a product of a different time" disclaimer not only at the start of both discs but also at the start of the documentary too. Oh well, at least there is not a manditory video disclaimer from Whoopi Goldberg.

Honestly, it's as if WB feels they are walking on eggshells whenever they have something with these racial stereotypes to release and they are afraid of the PC ax coming down on them a lot more then the wrath of loyal fans that put out money for thier stuff.

In the age where humor has reached core of the Earth lows in both TV and movies, where it is commonplace and expected that comedy shock and offend, I don't think Tom and Jerry in blackface or a Mummy sounding less than sophisticated is going to hurt anything.

Even if they never release the two cartoons that they deem offensive, they should offer a replacement to correct the aspect ratio error immediately.

Well, yeah. The way things are today, that is a very legitmate and pressing concern. That's why I blame society more than people at WB who don't want to risk being branded as racist and possible lose their jobs. It really is our faults as a society for letting the P.C. movement get so powerful. Being accused of racism or homophobia today can potentially cause irreperable harm to lives. It's actually pretty scary.

Good point, P.C. has gone too far!

FOX was worried about putting out the CHARLIE CHAN films (loading them up with docmentaries and disclaimers) but have released Shirely Temple's Civil-War era set films with no problems for years.

Makes my head spin!

Re: Special Announcement regarding the third Tom & Jerry Spotlight Collection

So now this volume has a fault on it, besides 2 missing toon's, the wrong aspect ratio on "pup on a picnic" this means that it need's a recall and this means that all 3 volumes of Tom and Jerry have needed recalls - and despite this they still don't match up to the reasonable desires of the consumer - if 3 recalls isn't enough to get someone the boot in charge I don't know what is.

This disc certainly gets my vote for worst DVD of 2007 at this year's upcoming HTF awards...

After I read your post I called the Warner Home Video toll number and once again asked if there will be a replacement disc. The operator (this time a man) said, yes there will be. I don't understand why we would have gotten two different responses. Did you call the same number as me? (1-866-488-4640)

Borrowed the above from GAC, but when i called they said that they were working on a replacement disc. did they know that this was going to happen this way after the past foul ups?
