Two and a half Men Letterboxed?

Does anybody know the story on why this is getting a letterbox DVD release when it has never been shown (as far as I know) letterboxed? I really wouldn't want to buy it if they are just chopping the top and bottom of the picture off.

Re: Two and a half Men Letterboxed?

Like most scripted programs on network tv these days, 2 1/2 Men is framed for both 16x9 HD and 4x3 SD. The DVD is being released in the widescreen 16x9 format. The top and bottom are not being cut off, extra content will be on the sides. NBC is the only network that shows SD stuff letterboxed.

Rocky's right. I watch this show all the time in HD and it is indeed filmed for 16x9 sets. You have nothing to worry about.

Are you guys sure?

"How I Met Your Mother" is broadcast in 16:9 HD, but the first season DVD set was released in 4:3.

That was a poor decision by Fox.

Warner did the same with "The O.C." first season set which aired in 16:9 Hi-Def but was released 4:3. They're somewhat rectifying that by releasing the season in 16:9 as part of the complete series set.

Even the last couple of seasons of "Frasier" aired 16:9 but were released 4:3.

Agreed. After enjoying the entire first season in glorious HD via our new plasma set, I was literally aghast when the DVD release was full frame. Even more puzzling was Mojo's full frame release of the first season of Zane Lamprey's Three Sheets, which is ONLY broadcast in 16:9. It's pretty ridiculous when my home recordings are better than an official release!

Hopefully season 2 of How I Met Your Mother will be 16:9... but I'm not getting my hopes up.
