Speculation: What is the Reason a Following Season isnt Released?
Its frustrating to get a season 1, and not to see the next season out for a long period of time. No rumours nothing. WHile some studios seem to throw out series like hotcakes, other studios seem to not be interested in bringing out the follwing season. I would think if sales were good, studios wouldnt hesitate to capitalize off the success of another sitcom series.
Is it poor sales for 1st season?
Laziness on studio's part?
Other financial red tape?

I think there are a few than that which didn't make it past a first season. Night Court and Murphy Brown come to mind. Diff'rent Strokes was, for a long time a one season wonder, eventually season two was released a good while back, but nothing since then. I'm sure there are others |

Who's the Boss is another one season wonder. I'm also trying to figure out how Paramount can release the first 8 seasons of Cheers and so far nothing abou the last 3!! It's aggravating.

I think it's a combination of poor sales and the internal financial workings of the company that's producing the DVDs. It depends on who's in charge of the TV division and what's considered viable. To someone like me, it seems bizarre that only one season of a long-running show like Barney Miller ever was released, but every contemporary one-season wonder like What About Brian? is considered a timeless classic that needs to be preserved for future generations... but the execs in charge have a different perspective, obviously.

- Larry Sanders - S1 only, and now 'Best Of's
- Huckleberry Hound
- Hill Street Blues (S1 and S2 only)
- Murphy Brown

See, you're ascribing the wrong motivations to the decision makers. What's released is based upon what they think they can sell. Something that's fresh in the audience's mind has some advantage there.

Just saying "poor sales" does not even scratch the surface of why shows do not sell well. It is simplistic to blame the show itself. | |
