Need Twilight Zone help
I am about to purchase the Twilight Zone: The Complete Definitive Collection and about to sell my original 45 dvd set. I can finally get it at a price low enough where it's pretty much a free upgrade.
Are there any extra's on any of those original 45 vol. discs that are not in the Complete Definitive Collection?
Are there any discs worth keeping transfer wise?
Thanks
Seth

Re: Need Twilight Zone help
I bought all 5 years in the first releases of the 5 Definitive Collection sets, and they are the BEST you'll find anywhere of the original Twilight Zone --- period. You've made the right decision to get them.
Never mind the end credits to "Eye of the Beholder". From what I've read about the complete 5 season box re-release of The Definitive Collection that you're getting is that the 2nd edition of Zicree's book The Twilight Zone Companion is missing.

Eventhough I'm the one who brought it up, I agree.

Re: Need Twilight Zone help
I have the Twilight Zone: The Complete Definitive Collection, and in comes in flimsy cardboard cases. If I were you, I would keep the original sets.

Yes it is not included in The Definitive Collection, but if you are interested in it then you can purchase it separately at an inexpensive price and you will still save a lot of money over buying the individual sets.

Isn't the picture quality supposed to be better in The Definitive Collection (like the individual season releases) compared to the series under the volume collection?
As far as the packaging for The Definitive Collection, if you want to separate the slates which hold the DVDs in each season like opening up pages horizontally in a book, then the slates will become separated from the cardboard spine either quite easily or else sooner or later as they are only connected by a strip of glue. Reading comments from others before I bought the set that the slates were coming apart from the spines, I try to avoid any unnecessary stress on the spines by opening up the sets no more than at a 80 to 90 degree angle.
It is unfortunate that they packaged the set in this manner, but if you are quite careful as I am you will still have plenty of room to remove the discs while keeping each season's packaging all in one piece.
Overall I am very glad that I bought the series under The Definite Collection, not only for the money I saved but particularly how it encloses all five seasons within the larger box as one "mega set".

Yes, the picture quality is better in the Definitive Collection. As others have said, it is one of the very best TV on DVD releases ever, and if you are a fan of the Twilight Zone, you cannot go wrong with it.

I believe that Seth means the old TZ individual volumes that were released a number of years ago (not the individual Definitive season sets).

Re: Need Twilight Zone help
Thanks for your help. It only cost me $30 to upgrade. I sold all 45 volumes today and the Rod Sterling disc. That set just took up way to much space, plus it was a pain to find the episode I wanted to watch, since they were all mixed up.
I started buying these back in 1997 when they were like $20 a piece and never bought the newer sets because I have spent so much money on them.
Luckily for me I was able to offload my current collection for a decent price. I'm so happy I didn't have to spend a arm and a leg to upgrade.
I wonder how much better the HD versions will be.

If I may ask. How much did you get? I have a complete set I'm looking to sell also.

Re: Need Twilight Zone help
Hey, while we are on the subject, there is a new book out on the Twilight Zone, caled "Dimensions Behind the Twilight Zone: A Backstage Tribute to Television's Groundbreaking Series." It's by Stewart Stanyard, and is pretty cool. I've barely started reading it yet (got it as a gift yesterday) but it will be a nice companion to the TZ Companion.

Re: Need Twilight Zone help
Just to make an important point... The 35mm negs are occasionally in rough shape with light film damage specs and debris. Also the videotaped episodes are pretty fuzzy and covered in dropouts with "Static" being the worst affected
