AMAZON TAKING PRE-ORDERS FOR SUSPENSE

SUSPENSE: COLLECTION #1 (According to On Video) is being released on 7/24. There are 30 episodes, and Amazon has a cover photo of Boris Karloff with insets of Paul Newman, George Reeves, Eva Gabor, Rod Steiger, and Leslie Nielson. To my mind, this (and the rarely shown Jack Benny version of CHARLEY'S AUNT) are the dvd "discoveries" of the year!

DeepDiscount also has this for pre-order at $24.19 versus Amazon's pre-order price of $27.99.

This reminds me of another rare, live show from the early 1950s where some kinescopes were saved, "Tales of Tomorrow," a Sci-Fi anthology series. Image released a few volumes of episodes a while back. Production values were almost non-existent, but it was fascinating to see live television from the early days, and some of the stories were quite imaginative for their time.

I ordered this a while ago. It's really a nice surprise to get a show like this released. Hopefully it will do well enough for them to do more volumes. I believe it ran for about 5 years so there must be quite a few more still in the vaults.

Re: AMAZON TAKING PRE-ORDERS FOR SUSPENSE

Apparently this set includes eight episodes from 1949, which makes it some of the oldest tv fare to make it to dvd. Although the set also extends to later seasons, and thus should provide a nice cross-section of its overall run. I suspect there was a fair amount of technical advancement between 1949 and 1953. I've already ordered the dvd-set, but I'm guessing I'll have another week or two to wait before its arrival. Should at very least be interesting to delve into these rather antique artifacts. Upon thinking about it, none of these shows would have even been viewed in my neck of the woods back then, as there was no local tv-station until 1954. Older filmed series would circulate in syndication back then, but not something like this, kinescopes notwithstanding.
