Battlestar Galactica season 3?

Hey all,

Just wondering if there's been any update or news on the BG Season 3 set. I just recently became a fan (recently as in 4 weeks ago) and have just finished the awesome season 2, drooling at the mouth for more. I heard/read that season 4 isn't until 2008, but there will be a TV movie in the fall that will then go to DVD after it airs. Shouldn't season 3 be released before this? If it isn't, I'm gonna be mighty frustrated...

I doubt they will since there was no big break this season.

I was afraid of that. I stopped watching S 2.5 waiting for this release since I elect to not have cable.

Actually, I heard it was coming in August.

The movie, which is sure to be shown on Sci-Fi, is considered a direct-to-DVD movie, so we will see that in the fall. I wonder if it will also be included on the eventual season 4 set.

I've already accidentally stumbled into some season 3 spoilers, so hopefully it won't take that long before I end up knowing everything before I see it. :p

I think the August info comes from Bear McCreary's blog where he says the release date for the season 3 soundtrack is mid-August to coincide with the DVD release.

Ron Moore did say that the Fall direct-to-dvd movie is really 2 episodes pulled from season 4, so I'd hope they'd include it on the season 4 set as well.

The Direct to DVD movie will be released the week (or less) after it airs.

With all the bitching and moaning Ron Moore does about having 20+ minutes of commercials cutting into his stories (hey, I would too!), why doesn't he move this show to HBO or Showtime... or at the very least make full, uncut DVD (well, I do want Blu-ray 1080p versions!) versions of each episode and then show the cut versions on TV. It will sure build anticipation for the video releases (where the real money is anyway) as you'd see the episodes as originally intended.

I don't understand why most TV directors don't insist on this treatment too.

AND FOR GODSAKE, DON'T PUT ANY SPOILERS IN THIS THREAD!!!!! Many of us are watching this show on DVD, not the Sci-fi Channel.

Most TV directors have no power whatsoever. The producers are in charge. And show runners only have a little bit more as EPs.

The real power is with the money people, and in order to get what you want as show runner, you have to know how to manipulate them The behind the scenes info from Babylon 5 provides excellent examples).

Remember, they are contractually obligated to deliver episodes of a certain length to the buyer, and it's the buyer who is footing the bill. Who will be paying for the extra 10-20 minutes of direct to DVD content?
