I guess it's a good thing I can't afford to pick this up right now. Still, very disappointing.

When you say "black bars", do you mean like a faux-widescreen effect? And how big are these bars?

Re: The Golden Girls - Season 7: faulty episode discovered by fans

I picked up the set and the cropping affects:

From Here To the Pharmacy
Home Again Rose (Part 1)
One Flew Out of the Cuckoo's Nest.
Edit: also "Questions and Answers

Oddly, it does not affect the opening credits on any of these.

Call 1-800-72DISNEY to let them know that this happened.

I didn't even know they had a DVD pressing plant in St. Olaf.

And no one in QA/QC noticed this during the entire manufacturing/ mastering process? Typical.

Well, I haven't bought it yet and won't until I hear how this is resolved.

Re: The Golden Girls - Season 7: faulty episode discovered by fans

Let's see:

—Little Mermaid Platinum Edition screws up the picture and sound
—The Fox and The Hound reissue uses a 1990s era video master
—Walt Disney Treasures: More Silly Symphonies uses the wrong masters for some of the cartoons
—True Life Adventures Volume 1 has the colors switched on one of the featurettes.
—Now this in addition to their ludicrous claims that Seasons 1 and 2 were not really in stereo originally, and the Season 5 edit (the damage claim that they gave is also questionable, seeing how they would have delivered at least 4 tapes to NBC when it aired).

I don't use the phrase "Walt's spinning in his grave" lightly, but I think he's probably broken the sound barrier by now.

I noticed this too, I kinda wondered if it was supposed to be mastered for HD or something

Re: The Golden Girls - Season 7: faulty episode discovered by fans

Now I'm not sure if I should open the set I got from Amazon today or wait to see if they're going to do something about the problem... I was so looking forward to watching this set.

I'd say the best hope of getting this replaced is to call the consumer service number and tell them of the problem.

Guess what: I checked and I found that "Questions and Answers" on Disc 2 is also cropped.

Whoever runs quality control at this studio needs not only to be fired but forbidden to hold employment in the entertainment industry ever again.
