Twin Peaks Season 2 Alterations

I finally got to watching the whole set and noticed that there is a piece of audio dialogue missing from Episode 28. Specifically missing is when Cooper spots Windom Earle dressed up as the Log Lady at the Miss Twin Peaks Contest, on the televised version and VHS versions, he says "Windom Earle". This line is not on the DVD version.

Interesting note is that the line appears on the Portuguese track but not on the Spanish track. Any one else notice this or bothered by this alteration?

I noticed and was quite happy that it was gone. I used to cringe every time that I heard it because it's poorly and obviously dubbed. I know the line is there to clarify that it's Windom Earle but it's obviously him. The only way an audience member might not recognize him is if someone is watching it via an antenna on a 4 inch handheld TV, someone has never seen the show before and just turned it on during that specific scene or if someone is incredibly stupid.

EDIT: I know your point is that it's an edit but I'd be willing to bet that it was removed at Lynch's request since it's such a terrible and needless line. I'm more concerned about the lack of 'Previously On' segments.

I think alterations are OK as long as they give you the original audio track. I actually liked the way it was originally done.

I have a funny feeling I remember reading that Lynch actually did the 5.1 mix himself in his home studio.

Re: Twin Peaks Season 2 Alterations

I read that as well but can't see why they would miss such a thing. The only explanation is that the elements were not available but I'm sure they could have salvaged it off the original sound if they wanted to. Probably just missed it.

To be honest, I wonder if Lynch did listen to each and every Episode's audio track or if he provided guidelines and told his engineer to go for it.

Re: Twin Peaks Season 2 Alterations

It came out April 3rd. It's very odd that they decided to edit the one episode. Could it be they used an overseas master?

Re: Twin Peaks Season 2 Alterations

Honestly, until I read the description, I couldn't spot the change.

My immediate thought was that Lynch tweaked it. I have nothing to base that on but since it's an episode that he directed and a pivotal moment in the series, maybe it's something that's been bugging him for years and he deicded to 'fix' it. Like you said, it's weird that one episode had a minor (nearly invisible in my mind) change made to it. That's what leads me to think that it was something done deliberately by Lynch.

One thing's for sure, it's not going to change on the series set.
