Region 1 LIFE ON MARS...?

Just wondered if anyone knew of any plans to release the excellent BBC series LIFE ON MARS in Region 1? There's a rather wonderful R2 release available, but given the crappy value of the dollar against the pound just now, I'd rather hold off on getting the Region 2 release if there *is* one planned for the U.S.

Re: Region 1 LIFE ON MARS...?

I imported it and loved it, BBC's DVD prices will generally run along the same lines but I understand waiting. The problem is in the fall David Kelly is making a US version of this series. This could mean either it will become available to support the new series or it will not become available in fear that it may distract or compete from the new series. I hope it comes here, I seem to remember some real music in the set.

I am eagerly waiting an announcement. I asked Gord about this a while back, and he said he didn't hear anything about it. Since Warner is in charge of the BBC DVD's maybe we can ask them in the chat (if that's how it works).

Re: Region 1 LIFE ON MARS...?

It's my understanding that BBCAmerica will be broadcasting only the second season of Life on Mars in prime time. I dont know about the first part unless they run the first 3 parts in the early morning like they do on many of their shows. These early shows are heavily cut by commercials. Yes, the DVD set will be welcomed by me. Hopefully we will hear soon.
Best

They broadcast season one last year. Maybe you're thinking of series 2.

Warner is only the distributor. They are not (nor have ever been) "in charge" of the BBC range. I don't even think WB's logos are on new content anymore, just the 2entertain and BBC logos. Probably, 2e saw the US public's confusion and didn't want anyone to think that WB had anything to do with content, production, etc.

Since series one has already appeared on BBC America, I would think it should only be a matter of time before DVDs appear Stateside.

Has this definitely been picked up for a fall series, or is it just a pilot or in development? BBC Worldwide had no problem releasing further Coupling DVDs over here when the NBC remake came out...

Yeah, tell me about it! Really ticks me off, especially when I can remember that not so long ago (pre-9/11) I was importing videos (maybe even DVDs) from the UK at an exchange rate of about 1.25US to 1.00UK (my credit card company was giving me a discount on the exchange rate, which was actually somewhere around 1.55 to 1). Makes a huge difference and has severly curtailed my importing of UK titles. I used to pre-order lots of stuff. Now, I only wait for the sales (usually not buying until something has reached the "50% off" price or better).

Re: Region 1 LIFE ON MARS...?

Is the BBC's "Life on Mars" in music rights hell? I wouldn't want them to replace any and rush it out to time the series with the ABC remake, I was just wondering. I haven't got a real chance to see this, and I would like to (even though one internet critic assumed everyone in the world has seen this, and since Scott Rosenberg, Josh Appelbaum, and André Nemec are changing the mythology, this person felt compelled to mention how Sam is time-travelling back to the 1970s in the original ).

Disney/Buena Vista/Miramax: Please put Beautiful Girls on Blu-ray with bonus features and the original theatrical trailer in 1080p, and an anamorphic re-release with bonus features and the original theatrical trailer day-and-date on DVD. Thanks!

A massive letter-writing campaign to ABC is being timed for October 9th. October Road co-creator/Beautiful Girls screenwriter Scott Rosenberg has recently told fans on the ABC.com message board to "fight on." Please help in the fight to bring his Beautiful Girls spin-off, October Road, back to the airwaves.
