– David Bianculli, New York Daily News

“All the witch-on-devil action might hook you.”
– Entertainment Weekly
HEX:
THE COMPLETE FIRST SEASON

DVD DEBUTS JUNE 5

10 Episodes of the Supernatural Drama as Seen on BBC America
Available in a 3-Disc Set with Exclusive Bonus Features

CULVER CITY, CALIF. (April 9, 2007) – Imagine “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” mixed with “Charmed” and throw in a little “Dawson’s Creek” and you have Hex: The Complete First Season, debuting on DVD June 5 from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment. The three-disc boxed set includes 10 episodes from the popular BBC America series starring Christina Cole (What a Girl Wants, Casino Royale) as the shy schoolgirl who discovers her magical powers while fighting off the devil. The bonus features include the “making of Hex” featurette and deleted scenes. The DVD will be available at the suggested retail price of $49.95.

Hex premiered in the United States on June 8, 2006. The show was set in a remote British boarding school that becomes a battleground between a demonic entity and the witches who oppose him. In addition to the usual teenage angst -- homework, problems with friends and fitting in -- Cassie Hughes (Cole), must utilize her new-found powers to fend off Azazeal (Michael Fassbender), the devil, with the aid of her best friend Thelma (Jemima Rooper). The series also stars Joseph Morgan, Laura Pyper, Amber Sainsbury, Jemima Abey, Jamie Davis, and Colin Salmon.

Re: SPHE Press Release: Hex - The Complete First Season

Worrisome info (for those buying this US set):

The actual first season only consisted of the bold episodes above. The others were actually the first four shows of the second season. Also, listing the opener as "part 1" and "part 2" is reason for US viewers to worry: this was originally transmitted as a double-length movie. When it was shown (edited) on BBC America, it was split into two parts.

I just hope for US fans sake that this is incorrect and that they will include all the original music: when the show ran on BBC America, all (or nearly all) of the background music was changed, and the pop song used for the opening credits was changed to something generic. These changes were not made on the original Region 2-PAL releases: those releases contain the original music, unedited episodes, and split into their original UK seasons as-aired.

DVD Special Features Include:
· Featurette: Making of Hex
· Deleted Scenes

These two extras appear to be ported over from the R2-PAL season one set. One extra on that set that wasn't mentioned in the press release was the director's commentary on the movie-length episode one. Wonder if that will make it to the US set?

Those who like their shows un-meddled with might want to wait for some reviews of this before ordering, or just go ahead and get the R2-PAL sets.

Not interested in "Hex", but I have to ask.....what the hex is SPHE?
There are several topics posted today with that in their titles.

I like anything with a supernatural twist to it... so I am looking forward to this set.

Re: Hex

The first season is coming out in a few days on DVD.

Here is a link to the Amazon.com

I would definitely recommend watching it via DVD. BBCA cuts out about 10 minutes of content and censors the rest.

Scott, but no one is sure yet which version is on the DVD from Sony. It's possible it's the original BBC version, but it may not be (and the people at Sony don't know!).

Re: SPHE Press Release: Hex - The Complete First Season

Yikes. That would be really bad if they used the cut versions. I guess I'll wait and see. Thanks.

I am glad to see your "on it". This means we might actually get the answers we need. I really can't believe that they would release this in the BBCA butchered form. That would be a marketing disaster. I can only hope that there is at least one live brain cell left in the person who made the decision.

Re: SPHE Press Release: Hex - The Complete First Season

The negative review over at DVDTALK seems to indicate that this is the dreaded BBCA version and not the UK version. Of course this is not surprising since it is released by Sony and not BBCA.

And that ladies and gentlemen is why for a UK/OZ series, I order it from the UK/OZ. No excuse now days for not having a good region-free/conveting player

Re: SPHE Press Release: Hex - The Complete First Season

That is really too bad. The only reason I would buy it would be to see the series the way it was intended, not the way that BBCA decided it should be.

Guess this is another one off the list.
