Who wants Universal 60's-70's TV series on DVD?

I really loved "Banacek" (1972) starring George Peppard on the NBC Mystery Movie (rotating along with "Columbo" and "McCloud"). A predecessor to this was "The Name of the Game" which was on the first rotating series wheel, the 4 in 1 Mystery Movie. It had Gene Barry, Robert Stack, and Tony Franciosa, who each week rotated their own stories. They worked at Howard Publications, which published "Crime Magazine", and "People Magazine"(!) -- of course this was BEFORE the real People Mag came into existence. Also, from the same period (late '60s) was "It Takes a Thief" starring Robert Wagner. Like "Banacek" it ran only two seasons, but was very popular nonetheless!

So, to recap: "The Name of the Game" (1968-71), "It Takes a Thief" (1968-70), Banacek (1972-74)

NBC Universal REALLY needs to get these shows onto DVD! These were very popular in their day... so get it together you guys! We want this stuff!!

Re: Who wants Universal 60's-70's TV series on DVD?

"Four In One" was a different collection of series, separate from, and starting later than, "The Name of the Game." The series that aired under the "Four in One" banner in 1970 were "McCloud," "Night Gallery," "San Francisco International Airport," and "The Psychiatrist." Another group of Universal shows rotated under another umbrella title, "The Bold Ones," on Sunday nights: "The Lawyers," "The New Doctors," the Emmy-winning "The Senator," and "The Protectors."

I'd love to see some of those out on DVD as well as "The Name of the Game" and "It Takes a Thief." One of the Encore channels ran some NOTG episodes several years ago, but not the whole series. TV Land ran a handful of "It Takes a Thief" and "The New Doctors" episodes awhile back, but I think edited them pretty heavily to get in more commercials.

I just hope that, if Universal does release any of these series, they do a better job of it than they've done on some of their releases. I was just reading some of the user reviews of "McCloud" over at Amazon and now I'm glad I haven't picked it up yet. I hope they don't mess up "Alias Smith & Jones," coming in just a few weeks.

"It Takes A Thief" was originally announced a long while back; around the time Universal announced "Adam-12" and "Dragnet." Nothing has ever come of it...then again, we're still hoping someday we'll see more "Adam-12" and "Dragnet." Maybe.

I agree with both "Banacek" and "It Takes a Thief".

70's/Universal = Bionic series 6M$M & Bionic Woman Region 1. "Maybe someday", when the legal/rights issues get resolved.

- Jeff Willis (Mainly a late 50's - mid-90's TV/DVD Collector)

"Combat! A Selmur Production"

"Two American scientists are lost in the swirling maze of past and future ages during the first experiments on America's greatest and most secret project...THE TIME TUNNEL! Tony Newman and Doug Phillips now tumble helplessly toward a new, fantastic adventure...somewhere along the infinite corridors of Time."

UNIVERSAL TV SHOWS!!!!!

It is not my ambition to own every tv series ever produced and offhand I can think of only a few titles that would (genuinely) interest me specifically from Universal Pictures (or Studios) Television that being MCHALE'S NAVY (ABC 1962-66), BORIS KARLOFF'S THRILLER (NBC 1960-62) and THE ALFRED HITCHCOCK HOUR (CBS 1962-64, NBC 1964-65) with continuations of both ALFRED HITCHCOCK PRESENTS (CBS 1955-60, NBC 1960-62) and ROD SERLING'S NIGHT GALLERY (NBC 1970-73).

I have foregone on LEAVE IT TO BEAVER (CBS 1957-58, ABC 1958-63) because of the inherent risk involved with technical problems due (extreme) microcompressing an entire season onto a mere 3 discs.

I tend to like Universal's movies much more than their tv series anyway.

PROJECT: UFO!!!!!

I thought of another title that I would (seriously) consider acquiring from Universal and that's the season-and-a-half PROJECT: UFO (NBC 1978-79) which just may be the kind of unexpected "sleeper" tv property that might be made available on DVD.

This is likely the only Jack Webb-related television production that I would ever want to buy!

UFO Investigator: "Tell us exactly what you saw Mam. Just the facts!"

UFO Eyewitness: "Well, you know that SF show on tv starring Roy Thinnes...."
