Jason King Coming to Region 1

Scanning the list of Image Entertainment's TV-on-DVD titles, I spotted "Jason King" in their listings, scheduled for a May 1, 2007 release. This is one of those pleasant surprises in that a good portion of the ITC catalog is available only through English (Network) or Australian (Umbrella) releases and, frankly, I didn't expect to see "Jason King" to be released here. It's also one of the few ITC series released in the U.S. that isn't under the auspices of A&E (I believe MPI's "The Invisible Man" is another). Anyhow, it's 26 episodes spread across 7 discs; no indication of any extras, but the guest star list is typically good for ITC productions. Link:

I wonder if this means that we'll begin to see some of the other lesser known ITC series come to region 1.

Re: Jason King Coming to Region 1

Bob, from the cover of the set one could be excused for initially thinking "hey, Austin Powers' big brother!" I wonder now if this show more than any other was the inspiration for the AP character.

As I'm not exactly a fan of Peter Wyngarde, this is one I'll unfortunately have to pass on. Now if "Department S" is released in R1, I'd probably be up for that since Wyngarde's screen time is split with two other protagonists. Still, it's nice to see ITC series getting more exposure--I wonder if "The Baron" and "Man in a Suitcase" are far behind...

I'd agree that "Jason King" seems like a strange choice for Image to be releasing over some of the other overlooked ITC series (particularly those series that starred an American actor, as is the case with "The Baron," "MIAS," and "The Adventurer"), but I'd guess that there may be some licensing/rights issues involved. Still, A&E really hasn't done too much with the ITC catalog over the last year or so, save for Brian Clemens' "Thriller," so it's good to see another company releasing these shows in the U.S.

THIS is great news!! Now I'll definitely hold off on buying "Department S" from overseas...there just might be some hope for a Region 1 release yet!!

From Wikipedia's article on the series . . .

"King's choice of fashion was named by Mike Myers as an inspiration for his popular movie character Austin Powers."

Ok, now don't tell me that a common Jason King catchphrase was "YEAH, Baby"!

Re: Jason King Coming to Region 1

Frankly, I'm surprised that DEPARTMENT S didn't come to R1 first, since that was the more critically acclaimed of the two series. Nonetheless, it's a move in the right direction.
