I'll be in the minority here, but I'm digging the cases they're using for The Fugitive and Gunsmoke. While they're not as fancy as the big cases with multiple discs, there is something really nifty about putting so many discs into a single Amaray case in such a fashion. They're also secure, which is just handy as anything.

True, but there is a big difference between constructive criticism and just blurting out an obviously belittling remark.

Especially in a thread where you know good and well there are fans of the show you just called "crappy." It'd be like me going to a "Buffy" thread and just blurting out how crappy the show was. Just not a smart thing to do, IMHO.

Gary "okay, enough of this from me. I'm going to get back to the show in question - THE FUGITIVE" O.

Re: "The Fugitive" (1963): Season 1; Volume 1 Rumored To Be In The Works!

I finally had the opportunity to watch "Fear in a Desert City" last night and I have to say it really held my rapt attention. Wonderful performances by all here with Vera Miles looking very convincing as the despondant wife. I'm going to have to go easy on this set and intersperse the episodes with some of my other sets so I can really savor this show. I did cheat a bit and went ahead to catch the performance of Frank Sutton (Sgt. Carter of "Gomer Pyle" and one of my favorite character actors) in "The Other Side of the Mountain" and wow, does he ever play a convincing thug. He really had quite the rare talent for comedy and drama.

As for the transer, as I was watching the pilot I found myself really appreciating the image quality for contrast and sharpness but did notice some grain here and there that was a bit bothersome, something I did not notice with "The Untouchables" set. "Untouchables", "Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea" S1 and the "Naked City" box sets probably set the bar for B&W image quality to shows of this period within my collection at least (I don't have the "Twilight Zone" definitive sets) and I have to say that overall, this set falls just slightly below those for picture quality. I'm extremely pleased with "The Fugitive" release, nonetheless, as it still surpasses "Rawhide" (for which I have no complaints over for image quality).

Before I go back to The Fugitive, if you feel a reason why I didn't care for Leave it to Beaver is necessary...it just felt throughly phony. As the parents, Ward and June were as bland as characters can be. Beaver and Wally weren't much better. Granted that Beav was supposed to be a goofball, but he was a poorly-written one. He hung out with kids that were as dumb as he was. The dialog was equally inane. "Gee, Wally!", "I guess on accounta...." That Beaver would once get in trouble in school for wearing an ugly (but inoffensive) T-shirt is unrealistic even for the early 1960s. It's amazing that this series lasted 6 years.

SCTV found Leave it to Beaver a target for parody in the 70s, and understandably so.

The only character that had any bite to him was Eddie Haskell, but even he was too sanitized thanks to network intervention. Ken Osmond even got out of acting to become a motorcycle cop. Then he and a few of the leads came back to do The New Leave it to Beaver, and although that was something of an improvement over the old show (but not much), it was equally avoidable.

I don't think anybody here does, at least not in this thread. Myself, I would just like it if you'd cease panning 60s era series with thoughtless pejoratives. This is not a first offense.

What iconic television series that has transcended generations hasn't been parodied? The more beloved the show the more apt is to be "mocked" I've always found.

I think a proverbial "Oh dear God in heaven....you MUST be joking!" comment is in order here as a retort to the above remark.

And I'll hold my tongue from this point on re. any anti-Beaver remarks being hurled at the immensely-enjoyable TV institution that starred "The Beav".

Hey! There's a thought that hadn't occurred to me. Maybe that's it.

(There is some guy who looks like Gerard hanging around my mailbox for some reason. That's probably not a good sign for Dr. Kimble's arrival either.)

In your opinion, but if I'm going to be criticized for NOT giving a reason (and I gave some good ones regarding Leave it to Beaver) on why I dislike a TV show then I'm in a position where I felt I should do so to qualify my brief comment about it being a crappy show.

If you don't like it then either counter them ABOUT THE SHOW ITSELF. If not, then just ignore my comments and move on. There is no reason to turn this into personal attacks against me simply because you like a series and I don't.

Hey, we all like The Fugitive so let's not argue anymore, OK?

I'll vote for that, Jeff. This isn't a Beaver thread anyway. (I merely placed the LITB screenshots in a prior post to illustrate the grain structure that exists within freeze-framed images when comparing LITB and Fuge side-by-side. It wasn't done to start a "Ward Cleaver War" of some ilk.)

But if Amazon doesn't ship my Fuge pretty soon, I am going to be forced to sic Lumpy Rutherford's large frame on those Amazon warehouse people! And God help them when The Lump gets riled!
