The thing is, it would've cost a 3rd party just as much to clear the music as Fox, plus they would've had to pay around a 25% royalty to Fox on each set sold. So most likely the price would've even been higher.

Re: Enough already Fox. Are we EVER going to see WKRP released?
Odd about the licensing, yes. But it's here now. If this release is a 'testing the waters' release, to see if the interest is there, we have two choices; have the show (maybe) disappear forever into oblivion or put our pride aside and buy it. What it all comes down to, is how much do you love this show, be selfish about it (nostalgic memories), or the chance to have a new audience see it too. Which love is greater...?

Re: Enough already Fox. Are we EVER going to see WKRP released?
I'm still gonna pass because I don't want my $$ supporting a half-assed job by Fox. However, I'm fortunate in that I have my old recordings to enjoy. The only reason I would be even remotely interested in purchasing this knock-off is for the extras, but it's not worth $25-$30 to me. Good luck Fox, I won't be buying future seasons either unless you include uncut episodes with music, and I would say the probability of this happening is even more remote than Fox releasing the BATMAN TV series on DVD.

Love's a funny thing, shown in funny ways... I don't see how we support the show by boycotting it, and depriving others the chance to fall in love with these amazing characters.

Well Henry, I don't see how we support the show by buying a bastardized version of it. Why the hell would I want others to have the chance to see such horrific insults to such amazing characters?
You have the right to buy whatever you want, including this dvd, but if you think for one second that you're going to make those of us who love WKRP too much to buy this alternative to a great show guilty because we're depriving others of edited, censored versions, it ain't gonna happen.

George, you don't get it. This may be the only chance others have to see it, and besides, the characters aren't 'horrificly insulted' by the edits, they're very minor and don't alter or hurt the characters overall in the least. Now even you should realize this, somewhere deep down inside, the characters remain the same. That's why I'm speaking of love for this show, and what weighs heavier. Btw, how do you know you love this show, more than I or anyone else that buys it? I'm nuts about it, have been since the 70s, and it certainly wasn't the music that attracted me to it back then. If this show had been shot on film, there may not have been any songs at all, so don't pretend they're that important to the stories. Because they're not.

Re: Enough already Fox. Are we EVER going to see WKRP released?
How many people would NOT buy the set if it were unedited, featured as much of the original music as possible, and was reasonably priced?

That being the case, the decision by the show's creative team to shoot on video instead of film suggests exactly the opposite--that they did indeed believe the songs to be important to the stories, so much so that they were willing to compromise on visual quality in order to include them.

Re: Enough already Fox. Are we EVER going to see WKRP released?
NO, shooting on film would've made it too expensive to include famous rock songs, that's how I understand it judging by the article, so they opted for VT. I'm glad they did actually, film is all wrong for a sitcom IMO.
