Your personal TV On DVD Reviews

I didn't see a topic like this and I was suprised. If however there is one forgive me.

With the amount of knowledge and enthusiasm people have here for tv on dvd, I thought it would be fun to start a thread for everyone to give their own personal reviews on shows. You can have whatever scoring system you'd like, any show, any episode, anything.

I'm almost finished with Medium season 2 and will post my episode- by- episode review shortly, but I thought we could get the ball rolling if anyone wants to add theirs.

Re: Your personal TV On DVD Reviews

Most of the personal reviews end up in threads for the show, usually dedicated to a specific season ("Lost" Season 2, for example). I'm not sure how useful a thread with reviews for possibly hundreds of titles would be.

Re: Your personal TV On DVD Reviews

I really like the idea. It's like the 'Last TV DVD You Bought' thread but with reviews. I think it could open people up to different TV DVDs that they wouldn't necessarily read about because they don't read some show-specific threads.

Re: Your personal TV On DVD Reviews

Well, since nobody else seems too interested in starting the ball rolling in this thread, I'll put in my two cents (maybe three) for a recent TV-on-DVD release from Paramount Home Entertainment ---

"The Andy Griffith Show: The Premiere Episodes" -- which is a single-disc release (akin to Fox's "Starter Sets") containing the first 8 TAGS episodes. It's the same as "Disc 1" of "The Complete First Season" set of the Griffith show, which was released in November 2004.

Some Up-Front Stats (followed by a detailed look at the eight perfectly-great TAGS episodes on this disc):

DVD RELEASE DATE -- October 3, 2006.
NUMBER OF EPISODES -- 8.
VIDEO -- Full Frame (1.33:1); B&W.
AUDIO -- English Dolby Digital 2.0 Mono.
ENGLISH CLOSED CAPTIONS? -- Yes.
ANY BONUS MATERIAL? -- No.
"PLAY ALL" INCLUDED? -- Yes.
UNEDITED EPISODES? -- Yes.*

* = Except for the ending credits, which feature a different (dubbed-in) version of the famous "Fishin' Hole" theme music, for some reason. Eagle-eared TAGS fans will immediately notice that the end credits aren't the "originals". A minor matter, though, in my opinion.

By the by, Paramount has changed the artwork for this one-disc Andy Griffith DVD. The newer front-cover art (on the left below) is the same art that adorns the Complete-Season set of Season 1 (which I, personally, like better than the original artwork for this product, which is on the right)......

Re: Your personal TV On DVD Reviews

I'm glad some people are interested in this thread!

My first review is on season 2 of Medium. I gave each episode a score of 1-10, and let me first say I'm stingy with scores. A igh score from me is like an 8, so while this season's score may not seem high, I highly recommend it and I loved it.

"When push comes to shove Part 2" 5
"The song remains the same" 8
"Time out of mind" 8.5
"Light sleeper" 6
"Sweet dreams" 7
"Dead aim" 6.5
"Judge, Jury and Executioner" 7
"Too close to call" 7
"Still life 3d" 7.5
"The reckoning" 8
"Method to his madness" 8.5
"Doctors orders" 8
"Raising Cain" 8
"A changed man" 6
"Sweet child of mine" 8.5
"Allison Wonderland" 8
"Lucky in love" 7
"SOS" 8
"Knowing her" 5.5
"The darkness is light enough" 6.5
"Death takes a policy" 8
"Twice upon a time" 9

Final score: 7.34

I thought this was a fantastic season. Iloved season one as well, but this was even better. Patricia Arquette is so underrated despite her controversial (I dont think it was) Emmy win last year. The show is nothing without her. The episodes I gave lower scores to generally didn't involve her as much, and the ones I gave high scores to she gives great performances.

Every scene with Arquette and Jake Weber is a joy to watch, and I think her children are some of the best child actors I've ever seen. This season has a 3D episode and the box set comes with 3D glasses. They do a good job with it, and they also have the same episode in 2D.

The highlights of the season are "The song remains the same" which has the best opening dream sequence this shows had IMO, "Method to his madness" which has Allison become the killer they are searching for, "Death takes a policy" which features Kelsey Grammar, and the best ep of the season, the season finale "Twice upon a time" where Allison dreams of her life had she not become a medium.

Highly recommended. Next up for me, My name is Earl.
