TV Show Starter Sets

This has got to be the worst yet. Best Buy has exclusive TV Show Starter Sets and what do they include? Shows that either take too long to release a single set or shows that are no longer being released:

Barney Miller
All in the Family
Partridge Family
Gidget

Best Buy and the studio who produced these, probably Paramount, should be ashamed of themselves for releasing these sets with shows that they obviously have problems releasing.

It's not Paramount; all of these shows are owned by Sony.

Re: TV Show Starter Sets

Maybe Universal could jump on the bandwagon and produce a set titled "The Best of One and Done".

Re: TV Show Starter Sets

I really like this idea, particularly the Classic Action and Classic Comedies sets. For those classic shows that I want a bit of nostalgia (Charlie's Angels, Hart to Hart, I Dream of Jeannie, & Bewitched) but don't want to splurge for a whole season. Sort of like what BCI did with He-Man & She-Ra. I learned my very expensive lesson on shows I watched as kid not being quite as good as an adult with Jem.

Re: TV Show Starter Sets

Does anyone know if on these starter sets the episodes are the very first eight episodes of the show or are they a mix of episodes from different seasons.

They include the first disc of the first season of the shows. There are 7 sets in total:

I'm not really sure how this is the "worst idea ever," and there isn't even a set with the combination of episodes Mark posted about.

Re: TV Show Starter Sets

I'm just wondering what Sony is thinking. You'd think they would employ this type of thing when they were preparing for the release of shows yet to be released but to include shows that had released one season and then simply abandoned sh9ows remarkably poor taste making consumers think that Happy Days is going to continue to be released. If Sony would release the rest of the Happy Days season I would pick up the first season ... but alas ... ehehe

Sony has so many failed TV sets... what did you expect them to release? Maybe they should have put MacGyver and The Sopranos on those sets?

Gord
P.S. Those shows aren't Sony either

Re: TV Show Starter Sets

Sony may be kinda slow on the release timetable (sometimes), but they seem to be getting through almost all their series eventually. I wasn't aware that too many Sony's were dead in the water now. Plus, they're big on the one or two season wonders like Tabitha, That's My Momma and Lotsa Luck that I would NEVER imagine getting released (Gidget to me was more understandable since it stars a 2-time Oscar winner.)

They seem to keep them coming, but just V-E-R-Y slooowwwwly. (Patiently awaiting the next All In The Family release.)

Re: TV Show Starter Sets

I actually think this is a really good idea. I mean you're right look at all the failed Sony sets, including my favorite Just Shoot Me!, and people will see these and be like "Wow I havent seen this show in a while." They may be all excited to watch it again and not realize how much they missed it. Then they will buy the season set with the coupon, sales will be up and maybe they will release more sets. I know one isn't being released with Just Shoot Me! but one is being released with Mad About You another one i want more seasons of. Warner should do this with Everwood!! LOL I know a lot of people on this board have had enough with the Everwood talk.

John, "Lotsa Luck" was not released by Sony; it was released by the independent company S'more Entertainment, which has also released "Good Morning World" and "Mister Peepers."

It's probably a way for the studio -- whichever it is -- to clear some excess inventory more than it is a promotional move.
