THIS CLASSIC 1960s SITCOM WAS COOL!!!!!!

I will add my vote to this one (again)!

I would much rather that DENNIS THE MENACE had been made available on DVD as opposed to something like HAZEL a show I never liked, never watched (to any great extent) and couldn't care about in the least.

With Jay North still very much around it would be great if he (and any of the other surviving series regulars) could also be recruited for some sort of informative participation in the form of an oncamera interview and/or audio commentary.

THE INVADERS starring Roy Thinnes belongs in a DVD Collection.

Let them land!

Sony has yet to release a show on dvd where all the seasons are in black and white. So I am not holding out much hope.
I so wish they would license some of their old black and white programs out.
So us fans can have a opportunity to enjoy these shows again.

I, for one would LOVE to see this show again. It is like a who's who of old Hollywood character actors. I saw it some years ago and thought it was hilarious.

Not bad, Bob but, maybe there's some hope since they released the B/W seasons of Bewitched and ...Jeannie .

If they do, this one's a buy!

But remember, Jeff, they also released alternative colorized versions for those seasons that were originally filmed in black & white . . . . . how's that for confidence in your own product? To be fair, Sony did release season 1 of "Hazel" in black & white (and did not offer a colorized alternative), but this is a company that is really allergic to almost any television series filmed in black & white.

You're right Bob....I was just "wishful-thinking" about Sony. I'm sure glad though, that they did release those 2 in B/W since I wouldn't have bought the color sets.

I know about the allergies....had them since the beginning

Bob & Jeff, it's scary how much you guys think like I do. You both should be terribly frightened.

I've often used the exact phrase you have, Bob, in describing Sony's attitude toward their black & white catalog: They are ALLERGIC to those shows! Plain and simple. Nothing indicates otherwise, expect that one rare blip on the radar that appeared last year (aka "Hazel"). Sony clearly has no faith in any show that was filmed in glorious black & white. I sincerely believe the people running Sony's TVonDVD division are kids that don't believe anything b&w could ever sell. Thankfully, Paramount doesn't have that same attitude.

Gary "why did you guys have to get me started on this topic again today - just before I leave on vacation" O.

Which is why right now Paramount is by far the best studio, while I would put all of the others in a tie for worst. So, only Paramount wants to get baby boomer money, I'm sure they are not unhappy about the other studios opting not to compete for our business. I think it was touched on in another thread but one of the reasons they may be so much better is that they really don't have much of theatrical library to mine while the other studios have vast movie collections and so their TV catalogue is relatively unimportant to them.

Yea, Paramount is easily the winner when it comes to vintage TV on DVD. No one else is even close. I've debated back and forth in my own mind as to a listing of the others. Some days I do feel like Sony is a notch below all the others. But then I think about the great shows WB has languishing in their faults, and I feel like putting them in last place. Universal bugs me to no end, but they have released portions of older shows like "LEAVE IT TO BEAVER" and "THE MUNSTERS." I know some folks think Fox is in last place, but I can't feel that way since they've at least released the Irwin Allen catalog and some of "THE BIG VALLEY." Sony's attitude is still the most egregious to me simply because they have so many great classics in their vaults and they seem bound and determined to let those shows rot.

Gary "but the bottom line is that Paramount continues to be king of the hill and no one is going to knock them any time soon as best I can tell" O.
