Re: Veronica Mars season 2

You mean, even the episodes that aired with a previously on don't have it on DVD? Sucks. Some of them were amusingly ludicrous last season--lasting two minutes and such.

Re: Veronica Mars season 2

I agree that the absence of the "previouslys" is sort of annoying.

I don't understand why they didn't include them when they were on the S1 DVDs. And like you say, S2 is far more complex and sometimes those "previouslys" really came in handy to remember who was who and what had happened up to that point. And if some people don't like them, they can just FF, can't they? It's baffling.

Re: Veronica Mars season 2

The season really plays better on DVD. For example, at the end of One Angry Veronica, there's a throwaway line about the couple next door getting evicted, then in the next episode, Duncan hides out in the empty apartment. On TV, there was a six week gap between those episodes, but when you view them one after another the set-up and pay-off become much clearer.

My one beef with the set is the lack of English subtitles. There've been a couple of places where I want to check the dialogue and can't.

My Blog
Les Miserables Volume 1 with my reading of "Four and Four"
Librivox Short Story Collection 34 with my reading of Jack London's "War"

I know what you mean about the subtitles, but if you have a newer TV, the set is closed captioned. It takes a little more effort, but you can still check the dialogue that way. Most sets that do not have English subtitles are in fact closed captioned.

Re: Veronica Mars season 2

It's sad that over half a decade into this TV-on-DVD phenomenon we are apparently still at the whim of whoever happens to be on the job of mastering a particular season of discs, as regards whether the "Previouslies" make the cut, and that sometimes it can still be an undoubtedly well-intentioned but misguided individual who thinks that they're doing people a favor by removing them.

This really mars (no pun intended) this release for me. It just isn't the same to enter the show without Kristen saying "Previously on Veronica Mars..." and the distinctive music which underscores the recaps of relevant past events.

Quite aside from the fact that they might actually be helpful to follow the plot no matter how close together one is watching the episodes (though I really don't like the assumption that all DVD viewers will be sitting down and watching entire discs or seasons in one go, therefore not needing any recaps; maybe I only have time to watch one episode a day, or one a week), they're simply a part of the show.

Re: Veronica Mars season 2

I have to agree with you guys about the previouslies. My wife and I are halfway through Season 2 and I really miss them. Season 2 does seem to have more things going on than Season 1. It would've been nice to have been reminded about (what I thought might have been) minor plot points before starting an episode. Plus, I'm in the camp that if it aired that way originally, it should be that way on the DVD set. How many episodes in Season 2 had previouslies versus not?

Still this is just a minor quibble. It's a great show and I'm glad I own it!

Re: Veronica Mars season 2

I think pretty much all 22 episodes had a "Previously". If any didn't, it's no more than 1 or 2.

No recaps... this is fucking ridiculous. Are the people who release these things even fans of the show? That excellent music makes that section an integral part of every episode, much like 24. More, with such a complex series, a recap is a must-have. Goddammit people!

It IS annoying. Very anger-inducing. What is worse is when there are people who say "It's not that big of a deal." These reactions are why the studios continue to do it.

At least they got the episode titles for Happy Go Lucky and Look Who's Stalking correct on the menu and booklet... but the lack of previously really bothers me. That piece of score ROCKS... and hearing Bell's breathless "Previously on Veronica Mars" delivery is always a wonderful way to start an episode. Not to mention how annoying the music cue that now starts each episode is...

Something else that's annoying is that the Fitzpatricks are called the Fitzgeralds on the menu and booklet for "Nevermind the Buttocks." What happened there?

Re: Veronica Mars season 2

One more gripe...

They got the deleted scenes for two episodes mixed up. I don't have the discs in front of me right now (I'm at work), but I think it was 'Versatile Toppings' and 'The Quick And The Wed'. If you click on the scissors icon beside the episode title for either one of these, you see the deleted scene for the other. No big deal, perhaps, but evidence that someone wasn't paying attention.

The absence of the 'Previouslies' is really annoying. It's the first thing I noticed when I started watching the discs.

I'm glad someone else said it. I may or may not need a recap, but I do need to hear her say those words.
