Filmation's Ghostbusters
Filmation's Ghostbusters is fantastic. I got the dvd set in the mail today, and when I popped in the discs to watch it, I felt like it was 1986 all over again. When I got done watching the first episode, my sixth grade life all came back to me. Garbage Pail Kids, video game arcades, 8 bit nintendo, and toys that were just completely awesome. What a great time to be kid I thought to myself, and then I felt a little sorry for today's youth. Their cartoons are abysmal IMO.
Filmation's Ghostbusters was an afterschool favorite of mine, along with Thundercats, Transformers, and G.I. Joe.
When I heard BCI was releasing this set, I knew fans of this show had nothing to fear. The video, and audio are just about perfect. The colors are vibrant, and the sound is crystal clear. The package is beautiful. The disc art is better than expected, and the cases for the discs are also great.
BCI has done it again. This is an amazing set. The special features on disc 6 are interesting. The interviews with the writers, and directors are a bit short, but very informative. I'm sure vol.2 will have more goodies included. I give this set a 9/10.

Re: Filmation's Ghostbusters
I bought this yesterday as well and really enjoyed the hell out of it. The fact that this cartoon got such a great set is amazing.
I have to give a shout-out to the horrible review toon zone forum gave this set. The guy panned it. Absolutley trasheed it. In reality this isn't the best show on earth. But so far it holds up alot better than Thundercats and Captain N. As a 80's cartoon fan I am ecstastic that this got a first-class release. BCI should be getting huge props for giving this show a video and audio restoration and putting care into this show for it's fans. I mean shows like Family Ties and Cheers are getting barebones sets and the fact that BCI puts so much care and effort into every single show they release, no matter how small the fan base, should be praised.
Toon Zone tends to give BCI the cold shoulder and that really grates me. An influential animation site like that should hail this company as the standard-bearer and demand that other companies put the care into their sets like they do. A release like this should get a huge thumbs-up.

Re: Filmation's Ghostbusters
I will always be grateful to BCI for producing / putting so much effort and good work into the He-Man/She-Ra DVD sets. (Not to mention the reasonable price for them too! compared to the overpriced Thundercats sets!)
And after you have seen what a great job they are doing for the sets it makes you wanna go and check out the rest of their releases. Thats how I learned about the Ghostbusters release! I think that the company working with BCI for the dvds is InkAndPaint ( http://www.inkandpaintdvd.com/)
If anyone of them is reading this, KEEP IT UP GUYS!!

I always think that about your generation's cartoons as well.
Seems like there is 1 or 2 Ghostbuster cartoons on the movie set. I have yet to view them because I always forget they are there.
I'm dying to pick up the Dungeon & Dragons set, I believe released by the same company. I really loved that one as a kid and really believe I'll still love it.

Those are a completely different series. Back in the '70s Filmation did a live-action kiddie show under the title of "The Ghostbusters". When the movie came out in the '80s, Filmation said, "Hey, we can make a lot of money by reviving the show as a cartoon. And Columbia can't sue because we used the title first." That's why the official spin-off series is titled "The Real Ghostbusters".

Aaaah...I see. Well, I'd actually buy this Filmation one then. I'll add it to my list of stuff to get. Thanks for the clarification. I don't think I watched 1 eps of the REal GB. But this one looks like the good stuff. Scooby, Speed Buggy, etc. I'm dying to get some old cartoons and even live action stuff like this, D&D, He-Man and Ark II/Space Academy which are all out now too. I'll have to do a big order with all of these once my bank account recovers from all these sales.
Btw, I believe AOL TV online has some Filmation stuff available for watching. I just upped my DSL to 6.0 and still need to try that thing again. It wasn't bad at slower dsl speed.

Re: Filmation's Ghostbusters
I've always loved Filmation's Ghostbusters! I pre-ordered the set online as soon as it was announced and I've had it since before Valentine's Day (I don't know how that happened, but I am glad). I'm on disc 5 now. My parents did a great job of getting me all the toys I wanted as a kid, but the few that I never got (and wanted badly) were the Bonetroller, Ghost Buggy and Ghost Command.
What I liked most about this cartoon was that the ghosts were given personalities and distinctive characteristics (it wasn't a one-show type of thing like the Real Ghostbusters). My favorites were Mysteria, Sir Trancealot, and of course- Prime Evil. Hauntquarters was amazing, too! I thought I was alone in my excitement over this release and I am hoping that a Volume 2 is released before year's end.
Also, the animation was very well done, especially considering that this show was developed in the 80s.

Re: Filmation's Ghostbusters
To show my age ( and i know this is coming too) i was thinking of the 70s live action Ghostbusters with Larry Storch and Forrest Tucker. This is also a Filmation show. Ran on Saturday morning in 1975. Bob Burns, the guy who collects all the old sci-fi props played Tracy the Gorilla. I really like the BCI releases of the old Filmation shows. Afraid i never saw this Ghostbusters cartoon. I know it came about because of the movie, and Filmation owned the rights to the title Ghostbusters..yadda, yadda, yadda. But, i did enjoy watching alot of the 80s cartoons even if i was in my early to mid twenties by then. Shoot im 43 now and still love these old cartoon series!
