Culver City, CA (October 31, 2005) – Strong Medicine – critically acclaimed medical drama starring Janine Turner (TV’s Northern Exposure, Cliffhanger), Rosa Blasi (The Grudge, Noriega: God’s Favorite), Jennifer Lewis (Shark Tale, Cast Away) and Josh Coxx (TV’s One Life to Live) – debuts on DVD January 10 from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment. Now in its sixth season, the longest running drama created for cable revolves around the ongoing struggles of two dedicated female women’s health physicians. STRONG MEDICINE: THE COMPLETE FIRST SEASON features all 22 episodes from the first season on a five-disc DVD set. The DVD will be priced at $49.95 SLP.
Executive produced by Whoopi Goldberg (The Color Purple, Ghost) and Tammy Ader (TV’s “The Wonder Years,” “Party of Five”), Strong Medicine first premiered on Lifetime in July 2000. The top-rated series features a provocative blend of cutting-edge medical technology and topical women’s issues. Recognized for its thoughtful and sensitive portrayal of medical issues, Ader and the show have been honored by the Entertainment Industries Council, The Foundation of American Women in Radio and Television, the EIM (Excellence in Media), The Media Project, The White House Project, The National Association of Minorities in Communication, The National Council of La Raza (NCLR), The Imagen Foundation, The California Governor's Committee for Employment of Disabled Persons, the American Red Cross, Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and the National Council of Jewish Women.
Dr. Dana Stowe (Turner) is a pioneer in medical research for women's health and head of women’s medicine at Philadelphia’s Rittenhouse Hospital. A stickler for the rules who won’t let her emotions interfere with her work, Dr. Stowe is constantly butting heads with her freewheeling counterpart, Dr. Luisa “Lu” Delgado (Blasi). Dr. Delgado is a street-smart “people’s doctor” who runs an inner city clinic and does whatever it takes to get her poverty-stricken clients the care they need. When the two women are paired up to run the Rittenhouse Women’s Health Center, they must learn to work together even with their respective approaches clearly on opposite sides of the operating table. Guest stars from the series premiere season include Whoopi Goldberg and Dakota Fanning (War of the Worlds, Dreamer: Inspired by a True Story).
