Re: At long last, Mission: Impossible!
I watched the first two Peter Graves episodes. They were okay. I guess nothing is ever said what became of Dan (killed, retired, transferred)...?

It was never address in series, and I think stephen hills leaving the show left such hard feeling is why his character was turned in to a villian in the god awful 1st mission impossible movie. It look like me and you are in the minority because we both like s1 and Dan. And for me S1 of mission impossible is my favority.
Q: Why do you care?
A: You'll never know.

Re: At long last, Mission: Impossible!
I didn't like Dan when I first saw the episodes, but by the end of season one I liked him a lot.
I barely remember anything about the first MI movie except I didn't like it. I remember talking to my brother as to why he didn't like it and he had a simple explanation: "Jim would never betray the team."
I agree. (Plus the fact that I didn't know what the heck was happening most of the time in that first movie).

Carabimero,
I can't speak for what occurred to him in the series, but I have read that Hill left the series because the filming schedule conflicted with his faith. I believe it had something to do with his having to work on the sabbath; I'd have to check on that to be sure. Maybe some others could corroborate if they happen to know.

Re: At long last, Mission: Impossible!
Yes, it was for religious reasons that he was let go. It was a shame because he was terrific. I loved Peter Graves too but Mr.Briggs was MI to me when I watched them as a kid & Mr.Phelps was kinda like the 2nd Darren on Bewitched. Nothing wrong with him but I was used to the original.
If you google Steven Hill they have a good wikipedia paragraph on the MI situation (he was an orthodox Jew who wouldn't work on the sabbath).

Re: At long last, Mission: Impossible!
Peter Graves is fine but Hill had an edge to him I like. Sometimes when hearing peter Graves's voice I have AIRPLANE flashbacks (or flashforwards!)and it's hard to take him seriously

LOL it not that bad for me, its just that stephen hill was the better actor and sometimes PG's acting can be very wooden,if he's not directed well. For me after s1 MI is all about the caper the team is about to pull off, the best episodes are the ones where not everything goes according to plan and the team has to scramble and improvise to make the mission a sucess.
Q: Why do you care?
A: You'll never know.

Re: At long last, Mission: Impossible!
Yes a good caper story depends not on how brilliant the plan is, but how brilliant the improvisation is when things go wrong. Too often in MI stories the plan goes off without a hitch. I agree the better episodes, and better caper writing in general, is all about dealing with unforeseen glitches.
Just finished season two disc one and thought the last two episodes on disc one were stronger than the first two.

Re: At long last, Mission: Impossible!
I'm not much of a Star Trek fan, but I also kept thinking of Nimoy as Spock for the first few episodes but after a while, the Spock thoughts went away. I would also say "The Submarine" episode is my favourite from season 4.

I have always remembered him the most from the movie "The Mysterious Monsters", of which I have very fond memories. I like him a lot in M:I, even though his acting is wooden at times. He has really good chemistry with the rest of the cast. I did like Hill a little more, he came across as more serious.
