3rd Rock Also Cut

And another possible addition to the long line of Carsey-Werner depradations: this review gives the timing for each episode on the set of season 1 of "3rd Rock From the Sun," and they're all about 21 minutes and 50 seconds. This is about a minute shorter than the length of an NBC sitcom in the mid-'90s when these episodes aired. (Check the "NewsRadio" season 1 DVDs or the "Frasier" DVDs for examples.) So I think it's more than likely that Carsey-Werner has done it again.

But the 21 minutes 50 second timings are the same for all the episodes, not just the first six or eight (the ones that had the James Earl Jones prologue).

I probably should have put a question mark after the subject heading, though.

Also, I just noticed there's a new amazon.com review by someone who compared the DVDs to his tapes of the NBC broadcasts, and concluded that the DVDs are indeed the cut syndication versions.

The 3rd Rock 1st Season DVD set is at least partially cut for sure. On the episode summary (on the DVD menus) for "Dick's First Birthday", it mentions Tommy bringing Sally to his class for show and tell regarding female reproduction. However, this scene is never seen in the episode. So, at least this episode is cut. Since all the other episodes run about the same time, they're probably all cut.

Carsey-Werner has screwed up big time. First 3rd Rock, then Cosby, then Roseanne. All cut. I'm very dissappointed!

A quick look at the R2 (well, actually R0) gives a random selection of 6 season 1 episodes an average of about 21:40. Taking into account PAL-NTSC differences, however, this is about 22:30, which sounds more accurate.
