Re: Hawaii Five-O - Any Interest Out There?

Is there a Disclaimer, if not CBS is going to receive some major Flak as advertising this as the complete Season 2. Guess I'll be voting with my Dollar and netflixing it. I wish I could support these series, but as I've voted with my $$$ on Flippers from Fox, I'll do the same here. There is absolutely no reason to not include a Show pulled from Syndication here on this set. Even if it was'nt remastered it should be here.

The box only says "The Second Season." There is no promise of complete. They even explain on the back that the episode is missing. So they're not trying to pull a fast one.

Bored, She Hung Herself aired only the first time and was never rerun or shown in syndication. Judging from the number of kids who enjoy duplicating the stunts seen on Jackass, why give today's modern goofs a chance to duplicate the hanging yoga stunt depicted on the show?

While it's a bummer to hear that "Bored, She Hung Herself" won't be included it still didn't deter me from pre-ordering this set. Once a Five-O fan, always a Five-O fan.

Re: Hawaii Five-O - Any Interest Out There?

I haven't read this whole thread, but I do want to comment on the pilot film, "Cocoon."

I never watched HAWAII FIVE-O when it was new. I was just about old enough, but my interest began in the early 1980s when I saw the pilot film aired as a repeat.

HAWAII FIVE-O: COCOON is one of my favorite action films of the 1960s. It has none of the budget or writing restraints one associates with television. It's filmed liked a motion picture, and it has all the quality of a motion picture. It looks more expensive than it really is, it's pictorially beautiful, it has impeccable style, and it's genuinely cool. Way cool. It combines law enforcement with believable espionage and a sense of the inexplicable. This is a literate script by writers who understand action and character. Casting the villain -- sorry, I forget the actor's name -- from THE MANCHURIAN CANDIDATE was an inspired idea. Steve McGarrett walks a fine line between dedicated and utterly ruthless; I liked how he blows up at another intelligence agency for following him, how he outwits them at every step. Jack Lord was sensational in the role. Part of my enjoyment of the pilot film is to see how Jack Lord pulls it off.

I would also single out Paul Wendkos, whose direction and lensmanship was at least two decades ahead of every other director working in television.

I also like the positive spirit and optimism of HAWAII FIVE-O: COCOON. That's been missing from television police shows for a long time.

"... little by little the look of the country
changes because of the people we admire."

Wow...not including 'Bored, She Hung Herself' on the 2nd season set is a major disappointment.

Re: Hawaii Five-O - Any Interest Out There?

Thanks to Joe and Bill for their responses. Kudos to CBS/Paramount for being honest with the consumer. However that doesn't make it any less of a major disappointment. I hope the reason for the exclusion has to do with missing/damaged elements rather than the fact that one mentally unstable person did something almost 40 years ago.

Does the box give any reason for the exclusion of this particular episode?

Thanks,

Steve

nope. just says that it was shown once and never repeated.

odds are they might have lost it to insure that some clueless guy in the vault didn't mail it out to a local station.

There is no excuse for this episode to not be included. The Encounter was an unsyndicated Twilight Zone episode, as was Short Drink from a Certain Fountain, An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge, Miniature, and Sounds and Silences but they were all included in the DVD releases. 6 Man from UNCLE episodes were out of the package in the early 80s with 4 of them later included but I'm sure all 6 will be included in the set. Whatever the reasons are for episodes not being syndicated do not apply for home video, nor should they.

Re: Hawaii Five-O - Any Interest Out There?

Is anyone here old enough to even remember having seen "Bored, She Hung Herself" ??
Hawaii Five-O and I both premiered in 1968.

Obviously it's not on the 2nd season set because it no longer exists (if it ever did that is)...

Re: Hawaii Five-O - Any Interest Out There?

I have never seen this episode, Bored, She Hung Herself". I don't blame anyone that this episode is not in the second season DVD set. The action of one individual after seeing it must still be a cause of great concern for Paramount.

I am glad we are getting a scond season. But I can't see how the problem could have been solved to everyone's satisfaction. If they cut the scene out, or digitally obscured it, the purists would object and by omitting it, the purists are still unhappy.

Mike Quigley's excellent Hawaii Five-0 page is still showing the episode is included though. He must not have had a chance to update it.

I look forward to seeing Blind Tiger and Singapore File.

Re: Hawaii Five-O - Any Interest Out There?

More bad news: according to someone who has an advanced copy, the following disclaimer is on the back of the box:

"The Second Season Episode "Bored, She Hung Herself" aired only once and is not included in this set. Some episodes may be edited from their original network versions."

Can anyone verify if this is true. I'm the biggest 5-0 fan on the planet, but if these episodes are cut, then NO SALE. I hope their sales go right in the toilet if this is indeed the case.
