Scott-
Did you sign up with the HDL code? When CH cancels a code and doesn't approve an application, their canned response is that the selections are not available. If you sign up for the get 2 box sets for $9.95, buy 4 more in the next two years, you should be able to get the first two seasons of B5.

My two cents,
In regards to Babylon 5: I am echoing the sentiments of others when I say it is one of the best sci-fi shows ever. The mere fact that if you pay attention to a event in a show in season one, it comes back in a later season to slap you in the face and say something like "Glad you paid attention two years ago. Here's the payoff". Also the fact that JMS was so active in "pulling back the curtain" online, keeping us fans of the show involved during its initial run is a big factor in my appreciation of the show. I remember being in a chat room JMS had set up on one of the last days of filming. He had hooked up a computer there on the set for anyone of the cast and crew to go online and discuss with us fans "live" as they were wrapping up the show. Great memories!!
As far as the columbia house offer, I signed up initially on 6/22, getting Smallville season 1 and Babylon 5 Season 3. I got no response beyond the initial "thanks for the application". Last thursday I signed up again, picking the same 2 items. Neither time did I use the HDL code, sticking me with the 4 in 2 years deal. Saturday I received an e-mail saying thanks for signing up and my selections and welcome packet would be on the way to me shortly.
The kicker is that in the regular mail the same day I received a package from Columbia house. In it contained a letter saying that the titles I selected weren't available and please pick something else. So it looks like the 6/22 signup was kicked out, but the 7/8 signup is approved. (I checked my credit card, it was never charged anywhere close to 6/22, but the 9.95 is listed as a brand new charge waiting to be posted).
In closing, all you new fans to Babylon 5, I envy what you are about to experience. The show is truly like no other Sci-fi show out there. I own season 1,2 & 5. I was buying them in order, but when season 5 came out I had to buy it just to hear JMS' commentary for "Sleeping in Light". It's that good an episode!!

I just started watching season 5 and I was blown away by the opening credit sequence as much as when the season first aired. The credits for season 5 are pure genius. I think they are the best credits for a television show ever produced. The montage of the first four years, the grandeur and quiet nobility of the shots of the cast, and above all Christopher Franke's score are things of beauty. I haven't seen a season 5 episode for a couple of years now, and the opening is as powerful as ever.

Was it also in S5 where they just painted JMS's name on the back of the station?

Philip,
Yes, you are correct about JMS's name on the aft end of the station in the opening credits to S5.

It's also the season they snuck in something funny on the opening credits on one of the episodes. Nothing major, but:

I just read this thread 4 days ago; signed up with Columbia House over the 'net and ordered Seasons 1 & 2. They got here today; not too bad for $10.65. Guess I'll have something to watch this weekend .

Ron, I'm kinda curious as well about what's going on with Columbia House. What's the scoop?
