Original Twilight Zone SEASON SETS (apparently) are coming...

Just (in the last 10 minutes) listening to an interview with Marc Scott Zicree on Coast to Coast AM and he just said that IMAGE Entertainment is releasing the original Twilight Zone IN SEASON SETS and he is acting as consultant on the project, working on (as he put it) "some neat extras"...

Well, this is great news but it kind of makes me bitter because I already own all 5 collections on DVD. I wish Image had just released season sets with extras instead of releasing the collections. Bottom line though, they know TZ is a hot property and there is a lot more money to be made from it.

I guess I'll have to sell my five collections and get in on the season-by-season action (but only if these extras really are "neat"). They most likely would retail for much less than $99.99 this time around.

I cannot imagine why "Season By Season" compilations are even needed for an anthology type series like TZ (where every episode stands alone, and is not in any way contingent on anything that has happened in previous programs). Plus the fact they are "stand alone" with regard to ALL characters. No character appears more than once in the series. Chronological viewing, in this case, is not essential at all. (IMO, that is. Some people, obviously, may disagree. )

I, myself, kind of like the original way that Panasonic/Image Entertainment packaged the Twilight Zones (by "Themes").

The *only* advantage (IMO) of season-by-season TZ sets would be that you could then completely avoid the rather subpar hour-long shows that are all contained within Season 4. ("Printer's Devil" was a good 1-hr. ep., however. )

What about the Gold Collection? I understand that there are about 5 discs of bonus material with that set, will the season boxed sets include all of these and possibly more?

Randy, I believe the extra features on the Gold Collection were the same that could be found on any of the discs produced by Image. Instead of including extra things on the individual discs for the Gold Collection (like what was done with the Image ones), they combined everything onto 5 discs tacked on at the end. I could be wrong, but I don't think I am.

I imagine the bonus stuff is going to be too good for me to not own these sets, especially if Zicree is involved.

Can anyone confirm this? I'd like to get rid of my current TZ sets while there is still demand for them.

If Image does do this, I hope they put all on the new bonus materials on separate discs than the episodes and release those extras discs separately for those of us with all of the already-released volumes/collections.

Also, Rick are you sure they said the original TZ, and not the 80s TZ series? Because rumors started a few weeks ago that Image was going to be releasing the latter in season sets later this year.

Well, the point of the interview was the ORIGINAL Twilight Zone and that's all that was discussed, and it came out in that frame of reference.

If I can get the time, I'll transcribe that section tomorrow..

Hmmm...I wonder if the "neat extra stuff" might include Serling's DESILU PLAYHOUSE episode, "The Time Element" (starring William Bendix), which was sort of a pilot for THE TWILIGHT ZONE.
