The only thing I really am going to hate about season 5 of Buffy is the lack of the "previously" on THE GIFT. That's going to be missed, and i'm saving my video of it just for this video clip.
Episode 4 is also very weak, the one with Riley... It's the only episode I truly hate...even more than I Robot--You Jane

I keep hearing this about the "previously on." Describe this, maybe spoilered.

No need to spoilerize it. It contained a blip from every single one of the previous 99 episodes.

OK, after reading some episode summaries for Seasons 6 and 7, I'm starting to think I should end my Buffy collection and viewing with 5. Maybe I'll rent them first, but the stories just sound very cheesy. Plus,
I've also heard Angel starts to lose its polish after S2. Personally I thought S2 ended rather weakly, and since I've been watching Buffy and Angel in tandem, I may stop now while they were both relatively good. I hate to not have a complete series set, but I'm learning to live with my X-Files collection ending at Season 7-season 8 and 9 in their original run was all I needed to see of those.

Actually, the general consensus is that Angel gets better with each season(the jury's still out on this year though). Honestly, it'll likely come down to how you feel about a couple of characters and their arcs.

Now, I've heard from some that Season 3 of Angel is a vast improvement over the Xena-esque Season 2 ending episodes.
Back on topic, Season 5 of Buffy was very gut-wrenching. The Body contained some of the best acting by the ensemble. Seems they all get their stab as they describe Out of all the speeches, all of which were very touching, I found myself completely welled up after Anya's. A very raw episode to say the least.

To follow up Zen's post, I would say The Body is the best single ep in Buffy history (at least through S5). I would rank it as one of the most astonishing things I've ever seen on episodic TV. It left me a withering mess, even though I knew going in what the episode was all about. Powerful, powerful stuff.

Hey Y'all..
not wanting to draw flames here but I think that S6 "Once more..." and tabula Rasa and the last few eps. with Dark Willow rank up there with ANYTHING in the Buffy canon.
Perhaps some viewers identify a bit TOO much with the geek villains in s6 and it hit too close to home...
Matter of fact, I can watch "Once more.." every week and not get tired of it, (Yes, I have a region free player...) IMHO, it's one of the best hours of TV ever produced and puts virtually every other Buffy ep. save "The Body" and "The Gift" to shame...
My apologies in advance to the Spike haters...

Thanks for the info-you've given me hope for Angel...I like all the characters so it'll be interesting to see what happens.

Teenage Connor killed the last of S3 and all of S4 of Angel for me. I'll be skipping these on DVD and picking up with S5, which I've been really enjoying so far.
I'm on the fence with S7 of Buffy. All those boring Buffy speeches... but the series finale was pretty decent and I rather liked Caleb and several of the potentials. Choices, choices.

While I think that Buffy Season 5 would have been a TERRIFIC ending to the series, I am very glad that there was a Season 6 and 7. Season 6, yes it had it's bad moments, but was very dark and dealed with a lot of things that were left hanging from Season 5. And Season 7, though a lot of episodes ended with questions that were never heard from again, I think that it ended very strong, not as strong as Buffy Season 5, but still worthy of purchasing when it comes out.
Back to Season 5. I have been an avid watcher of this series...never missing an episode and always buy the sets the day they come out. I always thought that Season 2 was my favorite, but after watching Season 5, I think that it was the best season of the Buffy series. It had very few MOW episodes and dealt with the story straight on, but even the MOW episodes dealt with some of the compelling side stories, aka, Willow/Tara, Buffy/Spike, Anya/Xander, etc. And I know most people hate Season 6, but as for me, I can't wait until it comes out.

I also like "Once More...", "Tabula Rasa", and the Dark Willow arc in S6. Though I can't say much for the rest of S6, I'll be buying the set for those episodes.
S7 had 4 or 5 decent episodes at the start, and had a decent finale. I'll buy that set because of the completist in me.
