Howard The Duck UK R2 Feb 18th

Hmm... the Regional DVD section seems to be gone now, so:

You can get it air-mail for approx $20 shipped at current pre-order price of GBP 8.00. Cheaper the OOP German issue that is generally selling for $30-40 on ebay.

"Full Uncut Version"? Is there some hardcore sex scene or violent murder in the movie that I've forgotten about?

Scenes cut from the original include Howard with a condom and Jeffrey Jones' "alien tongue" in a cigarette lighter.

Well that takes care of regions 2 & 4. Now how about 1??? I'd love to own this one! This was one of the first movies I'd ever seen in the theater as a child so it has some nostalgic value to me.

What do you mean when you say these scenes were "cut from the original." Were they included in the film's original theatrical release? If so, from which release(s) have they been omitted? Were they included in any home video release? Were they included on the aforementioned German DVD release?

Thanks.

Re: Howard The Duck UK R2 Feb 18th

My understanding is that they were removed for the original home video release. I vaguely remember the condom scene in the original theatrical release. The German release was advertised as "Uncut!"

Interesting that the German and UK PAL versions show running times of 106 minutes, and the Aussie PAL release as provided in the link is 111 minutes. The theatrical run time was 110 minutes, so a 106 minute running time is correct for a PAL release.

These were always in the U.S. video releases. I'm pretty sure this "uncut" line only applies to the international versions, where those scenes were cut. I've never seen them edited out of any U.S. theatrical or video release.

BTW the German DVD is still in print, I ordered it just a few months ago and it's still up on Amazon.de. Phenomenal transfer and a few extras (trailers, one longer promotional featurette), but the English soundtrack was inexplicably in mono. Hopefully that will be corrected in this new UK DVD.

Thanks for clearing that up, Mike.

I had a VHS copy with both the scenes in it, though I have no idea where it went over the years.

My DVD Collection
I met him, fifteen years ago. I was told there was nothing left. No reason, no conscience, no understanding; even the most rudimentary sense of life or death, good or evil, right or wrong. I met this six-year-old child, with this blind, pale, emotionless face and, the blackest eyes... the Devil's eyes! I spent eight years trying to reach him, and then another seven trying to keep him locked up for I realized what was living behind that boy's eyes was purely and simply... evil! - Dr Sam Loomis(Halloween)

Damn you Mop N Glo! - Stewie (Family Guy)

Re: Howard The Duck UK R2 Feb 18th

I posted this info' on my website today:

Quote:
Details of Metrodome's forthcoming DVD of Lucasfilm's Howard The Duck are now available.

Metrodome is claiming that the film is "uncut", with a running time of 105'52". The 1986 theatrical release and the subsequent 1987 VHS release were both cut for a PG rating - the VHS version was certificated at 105'24"). The BBFC has given the DVD a 12 certificate.

The film is presented in 1.85:1 format, with anamorphic enhancement. The audio is Dolby Digital stereo 2.0 (at 224kbps).

The disc itself is a DVD-5. The transfer has an average bit-rate of 4.75Mb/s. The disc is coded for Region 2 playback only.

The German disc has a promotional featurette, which is missing from Metrodome's disc, but the film only has mono audio. The UK disc has a theatrical trailer for Howard The Duck, (and one promoting their Super Mario Brothers DVD).

Thanks to Mike for the info about the German disc.

You can find a page of menu and screen grabs from the disc here:
