Anchor Bay/Starz - the Allen Klein/Tony Anthony films
Now that Anchor Bay has, to much success and acclaim, liberated the Alejandro Jodorowsky classics from producer Allen Klein, it would be really great if they could liberate another set of unique and very hard-to-see films from the same source: the westerns of prolific American expat Tony Anthony.
While most home video viewers only know Anthony from his two '80's attempts to cash in on the 3-D revival (COMIN' AT YA, TREASURE OF THE FOUR CROWNS), Anthony made a batch of darkly humorous action films for the legendary music producer. The most famous, BLINDMAN, was an early attempt to reinvent the Japanese character of Zatoichi the Blind Swordsman, before Rutger Hauer's BLIND FURY a decade later. Most of these have had little exposure in theatres or TV since their initial release, and even though they came out through major studios (Fox, MGM), I am making the guess they have been out of circulation due to reverting to Klein's ownership.
The movies include
THE SILENT STRANGER
COME TOGETHER
BLINDMAN
1931: ONCE UPON A TIME IN NEW YORK
\"As I looked back over my life, I realized that I enjoyed nothing--not art, not sex--more than going to the movies.\" -- Gore Vidal
