Any hope of post Hanna Barbara theatrical Tom and Jerry releases?
With all the problems that the Spotlight collection has had, I am still hoping that the later Tom and Jerrys will be commercially released.
The later shorts have the advantage of not having the politacally correct concerns that some of the earlier shorts have so WB won't have that headache with them.
The Tom and Jerry's I talk about are:
The 13 Gene Deitch shorts. These shorts are often bizzare, with weird sound effects. I like them. I've been recording them here and there on Cartoon Network (they don't seem to be shown on Boomerang) but they are shown quite rarely. Plus, CN puts thier *&^%$ superimposed corner banners on the picture. First to tell you "you are watching Tom and Jerry" and then to advertise other shows.
The 34 Chuck Jones shorts. Tom and Jerry with the Chuck Jones touch. I like these too. I have them all recorded off of Boomerang but digital cable is nothing compared to commercial DVD.
Hanna Barbara 1975 TV. My first exposure to Tom and Jerry was this Saturday Morning "Tom and Jerry Show" where Tom and Jerry are firends and Jerry wears a red bow tie (possibily to have a seperation between Jerry's head and body so they could employ limited animation techniques). This couldn't be a part of any theatrical collection but I would love a seperate release.
What I wished they did with Tom and Jerry was a comprehensive collection of all the theatrical shorts. Including the alternate versions of Mammy episodes (have the original version with original Mammy audio track, have a second audio track of the revamped Mammy and have the version reanimated with the June Forey Irish lady in the 60's).
Oh well, still hope for further T and J releases.
