A few words about... Dancing Lady

What an odd...

yet interesting cast and crew.

Start with Ted Healy and his Stooges.

That's right, an early incarnation of the trio, Howard, Fine and Howard, up to the antics which made them famous;

Clark Gable second billed to Joan Crawford as The Dancing Lady;

Fred Astaire in his film debut, playing himself;

Robert Benchley;

Nelson Eddy playing himself;

Franchot Tone as Ms. Crawford's love interest;

May Robson, Eve Arden (in her second screen appearance), and Lynn Bari, as chorus girls;

Photographed by Oliver Marsh -- Bitter Sweet, The Women, Sweethearts, San Franciso, The Great Ziegfeld, A Tale of Two Cities and others;

Edited by Margaret Booth (1898 - 2002) -- Annie, Calfornia Suite, The Goodbye Girl, The Way We Were, The Wizard of Oz (supervising), Camille, Mutiny on the Bounty, Reckless, The Mysterious Lady, and...

Orphans of the storm;

All somehow joined together in a very entertaining film, which has come down through the decades in absolutely beautiful condition.

Short of a number of frames which appear to have been removed electronically to avoid damage, the image is brilliant.

As a part of Warner's Clark Gable Collection, it, along with the rest of the Gable films comes Highly Recommended.

WoW
Thanks for the history lesson, as this title now definitely grabs my interest!
Looking forward to more HD reviews, as well.

Movies are: "The Greatest Artform".
HD should be for EVERYONE!

That short subject with Healy and the Stooges was amazing --- like watching one of their vaudeville performances on stage. It would be worth the price of the disc even without the wonderful "Dancing Lady".

I believe there are two short subjects.

One in two-color Technicolor.

Maybe with the interest in the Three Stooges from the Dancing Lady Disc, maybe Warner will release the "MGM Three Stooges Festival" (which were all their MGM shorts shown together) and pair it with their great documentary "The Lost Stooges" narrated by Leonard Maltin
