I bought a set today at Best Buy and the spine color is certainly the way to tell. They had around ten sets on the shelf and all but one had the yellow spined YF.

i can't decide if this is worth buying or not. i've only seen 4 mel brooks movies. i thought frankenstein, blazing saddles, and producers were brilliant. spaceballs was one of the worst movies i've ever seen. i dunno if i'm comfortable taking a chance on the other 5 movies in the set.
If you didn't like "Spaceballs", I bet you won't like "Robin Hood: Men in Tights" either. You may also only sporadically enjoy "History of the World, Part One" (it is episodic and does have its highlights, though). Other than that, I think most of the rest of the collection is pretty darn good/funny.

If the lettering is yellow, it is the new, anamorphic transfer. If the lettering is white it is the old hard-matted letterbox version.

Joe

Bzzzzzztttttt! Wrong! Damn it to hell!

I got suckered in by the yellow lettering and picked this up at Costco.

Yellow lettering - old piece of shit non-anamorphic transfer

So now what do I do? I could exchange it at Costco, but they may all be bad.

I guess I'm going to have to figure out how to contact the studio and try to get a replacement.

This has to be them unloading their old copies. Sons of bitches!

Damn!

If anyone knows how to contact these pricks, please let me know. The site they list on the dvds has no way to contact them.

George, why don't you tell us how you really feel?

All kidding aside, this is a major problem for Fox. Aside from angry consumers stuck with a DVD that doesn't deliver what's advertised, they may lose some sales will they have because internet savvy consumers will be scared to buy this?

Having said that, I would be surprised that given their good relationship with HTF if some exchange program isn't announced on these pages.

Sorry, I must have misread one of the earlier posts. I haven't even seen a copy of the box yet.

I also got a non-anamorphic one with yellow spine at Costco. Exchanged it for another one. Again, non-anamorphic. I'm taking it back tomorrow. I want Fox to eat the cost of two opened, faulty sets.

So... stay away from the yellow spine, then? Is the spine yellow or the lettering on the spine yellow?

If I do drop $70 or so on this set, I wanna make sure I get the high quality I'm paying for.

How about the HTF Fox reviewer? Perhaps he can contact Fox about this problem on behalf of those stuck with the old Young Frankenstein. I wonder if this was a bad mistake or Fox actually thought most people wouldn't notice? Also if they are giving out the old Blazing Saddles, it should have just been left out, though we could replace the new version in our set by buying a thin dvd case.

It's really a shame that the people in the home vid departments of many studios don't keep up with what goes on here. It would be very much to their advantage.
