"Panic in Needle Park" being released on 5/3.
One of my favorite Al Pacino films, Panic in Needle Park is being released on DVD by FOX on 5/3. They are also releasing Author, Author on the same day.

FOX is really kicking butt with catalogue titles lately. Also from FOX in May 2-Disc SE's of I, ROBOT, MAN ON FIRE, and DAY AFTER TOMORROW on the 24th.

This is the film that convinced Coppolla to cast Pacino as Michael Corleone in those series of small time gangster movies.

These are up for pre-order at DVDSOON in Canada. Not sure what the story is yet on them.

The news about 'Panic In Needle Park' being released is very welcome, but it also reminds me that we are still waiting for Warners to get around to releasing 'Scarecrow', which was Pacino's second collaboration with the same director (Jerry Schatzberg). 'Scarecrow' also starred Gene Hackman, and won the Palm d'Or award for the best film at the Cannes festival in the early 1970's (I think it was 1973). It's strange that Warners are still sitting on this one.

Yeah Bruce, Scarecrow is sorely missed on DVD, very surprising since it has 2 big name stars in it. I always group this with three other Warner films, Straight Time, Night Moves & Prince of the City because none of them are on DVD.
I just watched it again recently (I have the Laser) and it always surprises me how plain & ordinary Pacino's wife is in the film, something which you never see in a Hollywood studio film nowadays. I'm probably the only one who notices such things, but it really makes a strong impression on me, it brings the film that much closer to reality.
