Given the director involved and that the post production diaries are the only extra on the theatrical cut DVD, yes.

And Peter Jackson has publicly stated that they are working on it.

I'm holding out for the director's cut on this one. I was well rewarded for my patience with the Lord of the Rings trilogy.

With LOTR I think it was easy for many to hold out because it was well known the EE would be out a mere 3-4 months later (although with the early release of ROTK in May it was a 7 month wait).

I own both versions of all the films, although I haven't watched the theatrical editions of each film since owning its respective extended edition.

With KK, I'll be interested to see what's added, but unlike LOTR, I'd like to see some cuts as well as additions for this extended cut. We'll see....
