Yeah, it covers up the "1.78:1 DVD SCREEN FORMAT" text.

Thanks Vincent.
I checked a few more stores on my way home, but none of them had the stickered version. I emailed Bill Hunt and I'm going to email Lionsgate as well.

Moving on today... remember how, a few weeks ago, we reported on Lionsgate releasing Lord of War (a 2.40:1 aspect ratio film) on DVD cropped to fill the 1.78:1 frame (click here and slide down a few paragraphs)? Remember how we asked the studio about it, and they said it was a decision made by the production company? Yeah... well, maybe it was the production company's fault. But now it looks like it WAS the screw-up we figured all along. Readers are starting to report seeing new copies of Lord of War on store shelves, marked with a sticker on the back of case (over the old aspect ratio information) saying that the film is now presented in the correct 2.40:1 ratio. Upon buying and watching the new stickered disc, they report that it has indeed been quietly re-issued at the correct 2.40:1. Boy... if this is true, a LOT of folks who purchased the cropped version are going to be PISSED. If we hear about Lionsgate doing some kind of disc exchange program, we'll let you know. They certainly should.

If Universal could do a free disc swap for BTTF, and Fox for Star Wars...Lion's Gate better get on the ball here!

I remember the same thing happened to March of the Penguins when they changed the disc content (unannounced) a couple months ago.

I know this is a Lord of War thread, but I guess I missed the above; what happened?
As for Lord of War, I'm glad it's been fixed, and since I haven't bought it yet, I don't have to worry about replacements. However, they really should offer an exchange program for those who have already bought it.

I guess that'll teach Lionsgate what we expect for Blu-ray. I was beginning to worry.

A minor thing, just in Canada I think. They removed the trailers because parents complained they were inappropriate for children on a "children's disc". WTF?? This happened about a month after initial release IIRC.
It's just that this disc was changed and unannounced and appeared in the Wal-Mart new release rack. WM here is very fastidious about arranging discs, and something suddenly re-appearing in the new release rack a month or two after release "means something". Lord of War 2-disc re-appeared there last week, and I'm hoping the reason why is they are the new 2.40 version.

Until Lionsgate admits it's an error, I don't think an exchange will happen. People knowingly bought a MAR disc and it says so on the back.

People buying on-line can't see what it says on the back of the box. I don't think e-tailers would have stated on their web sites that the disc was MAR. And most buyers wouldn't have been aware of the film's correct aspect ratio unless they'd seen it in the theatre.

Surprisingly, a local Best Buy did have the stickered versions of the 2-disc set. The 1-disc set looked the same. Luckily, I never opened up the 2-disc set I bought on release date and BB let me exchange it.

Dang! I've checked a bunch of stores and no luck. Tried a Walmart that had 20 copies but none were stickered. I hope they don't leave it up to the store to do the stickering.
I'll keep checking my Best Buy's, since most all 3 of the ones I checked only had one copy, and they should hopefully restock soon.
