New Star Wars DVD boxed set on the way...
According to TheForce.Net and The Digital Bits, George Lucas is planning a 6-disc DVD set of the entire Star Wars saga. Well... who didn't see THAT coming?

Okay George, I'm throwing down the gauntlet. This is your chance to fix those music errors on Episode IV. Correct the rear channels and restore the complete "Battle Of Yavin" cue or I will disown you!!!

wouldn't be a big surprise, and i'm sure he'll throw in some one of a kind juicy bonus(es) otherwise what would be the point of upgrading so soon?
but unless there is a decent a/v release of the original cuts, i'm done.
yeah, i hate the problems with the Yavin cue and other mix annoyances, but i hate "alert my star destroyer..." and other mods just as much if not more.
fixing the former is just a small band-aid on a gaping wound, for me.
but i am curious as to what bonuses he will be tempting people with next time around- what was purposefully withheld from the boxset for this second release...?
edited to add
from the bits site there is this speculation
Quote:

George Lucas let it slip that a new DVD box set of all 6 films is in the works, possibly to include an all-new bonus disc containing deleted scenes from the original trilogy.

figures.
would love to see the deleted stuff, but not bad enough to buy a second release of versions i can't stand.

Even though it is indicated that no further changes will be made for the next release, I think it would be safe to expect a digital Yoda for TPM. The work has already been done. The project was taken on in order to get the team in good practice (if that's the proper way to describe the exercise) for Revenge of the Sith. I would rather see it done as a prequel box set to complement the existing OT box set. If timed for the Sith DVD, it would get you a new cut of TPM, Sith on DVD, and either the existing Clones disc or something different about that one, too.

i doubt the 6 film set is going to be released this year.
LFL will already be getting a good chunck of change with the dvd release of just Sith.
next year, when the cupboard is bare would be a better time.
not to mention it would be a big anniversary release.
so figure 3rd quarter 07.
then maybe if we're good, and George could use the income, we'll see the unmolested orginals about 3 yrs after that-
after HD has made a few inroads into peoples consciousness.
i can just see the headlines "DVD isn't dead yet!
-George Lucas announces the first release of the original, theatrical versions of SW on standard def dvd"

George, if you read this thread, here's my laundry list!
-Beef up the Episode I soundtrack. I've been hearing for years how the laser sounds better.
-New Episode I video transfer.
-New Episode I Yoda all the way, man.
-Fix those bloody soundtrack errors in Episode IV!!!
-Fix those bad lightsaber shots in ALL the last three.
-Deleted scenes from ALL the movies, including those missing action sequences from Episode II.
-Full version of the 'Empire of Dreams' doc.
-Toss the 'Clone Wars' animated shorts in there as well. Those are great fun and essential viewing for the prequel trilogy.
As with everyone else, I'd also like to see the original versions of the old trilogy, but realistically I don't think it'll happen. The above, though, are all within the realm of possibility, perhaps even probability.

I'm hoping he not only fixes the sound issues in episode IV, but also the inconsistent colors and brightness/contrast levels throughout the trilogy.

May I also add that the "Empire/Darth Vader" theme should be added into Episode 4... it not being there sticks out like a sore thumb now that each film on either side of it features it prominently.
Also - and this is definitely wishful thinking - use ILM's computer magic to somehow re-edit and "reshoot" scenes for a new The Phantom Menace "2.0" version with a more engaging story and another child actor in the lead. It's a monumental shame that a Star Wars film has only three good scenes in it.

Well, this should surprise no one. Of course you're gonna need more than just deleted scenes to get me to rebuy the trilogy, but I'm a Star Wars whore, so who am I kidding?

I have no complaints save for two...
Give 'EP I' a new transfer and get rid of that horrible edge ehancement, this alone would be all the incentive I need to upgrade.
And also, have ILM do a completely digital Yoda in 'EP I', the puppet that we have now doesn't even look like him!
This reissue should be it for awhile, after 'EP III' he's going to go ahead and make all 6 films into state of the art 3-D, it will be sometime before we get the technology in our homes that will faithfully reproduce what he has in mind as this won't be any ordinary 3-D.
These 3-D releases, I suspect, will get the most extensive overhaul of the entire film series we've seen thus far, changes and additions out the ying yang!
"I've been staring at Blu-ray for 48 hrs straight, I can't look away.
Can someone help me, please?"

I'd like to think that George wouldn't "f" us this soon (I say "this soon", because he always gives us new reasons to buy things), but one year later? c'mon... Let us at least think our money is safe for a bit!
POWERFUL THE DARKSIDE IS... I caved and bought the Star Wars re-release after saying the whole time that I wouldn't.
