And semi-off topic, anyone know what's going on with Tobe Hooper's Eaten Alive? I thought it was supposed to come out on the 26th too but it's not listed at Dark Sky's site anymore.

Dark Sky delayed it because they found a new print which they're using to do a better transfer, and the delay is allowing them to include a Hooper commentary as well. You can read about it here:

http://fangoria.com/news_article.php?id=2617

I heard the new disc's transfer wasn't correctly flagged for progressive playback, so hopefully they'll fix that too (and I'm guessing they will).

Thanks, Justin. As the link points out, the new Fango even has a review so I was wondering what the deal was. Cool news that they're going out of their way for that movie.

Ok, does anyone know why this releases dvd case is called a steelbook package ? I know its in a bigger than normal dvd case, but is it made from diffrent material , or in 1 of those glass cases the previous pioneer version was ?

Have you ever seen the R1 release of DUNE: Extended Edition? It's like that, a standard DVD case-sized metal tin.

Well I bought this last night and it looks SOOOOOOO much better than I thought TCM could ever look.....fantastic transfer!

The extras are great but if I had just one minor criticism it might be that the deleted scenes/outtakes on the older disc had rather nice explanations of what the context of the deleted scene was and it's reason for being deleted, on the new disc they are simply run straight through with no explanation and no chapter stops between each individual cut scene & outtake....no HUGE problem but a bit annoying if you have the first disc to compare it to.

Great disc all the way around anyway and WELL WORTH THE MONEY! $18.99 is a steal for this transfer.

Get it. Watch it. Enjoy it.

Kevin, how did you think the contrast boosting was in this version? Did you see it in many places?

I also rented this since I own the Pioneer disc (which I will soon be selling) and it does look better than I ever thought this movie could look. The documentary is good too, even touching on the sequels, and is pretty extensive with most of the cast.

I see no contrast boosting personally, the blacks are rather inky in the night scenes but never at a sacrifice to detail so I suppose this might be a sign of overly stepped up contrast but in the daytime sequences I see no blown out whites (aside from the van windows of course) or stepped up edges. Great transfer IMO. Buy it Mattias, you're not likely to get a better version anytime soon....aside from HD I suppose.
