Gift Set of *every* non-OOP Criterion at Amazon

Have you guys seen this The Criterion Collection Holiday 2004 Gift Set?

Here's the description:
Quote:
Now available for the first time, The Criterion Collection is proud to present its prestigious collection of films together in one gift set! Totaling 282 discs, The Criterion Collection Holiday 2004 Gift Set consists of all of their published DVDs through October 2004 (except for the out-of-print editions): that's 241 titles on 282 discs and includes a Certificate of Authenticity. This much sought after collection of films is the most significant archive of contemporary filmmaking available to the home viewer.
Wow. That's quite a haul.

"Would I rather be feared or loved? Um...easy, both. I want people to be afraid of how much they love me."
--Michael Scott, "The Office"

"When I get sad I just stop being sad and be awesome instead. True story."
--Barney Stinson, How I Met Your Mother

$5,250.00??????? I know that averages out to $21 a title, but who in the hell could spend that much on DVDs at one time? That's the craziest thing I've ever seen.

The main purpose of such an offer is not to sell X number of Criterion collections at $5,250 each. It is simply a promotional gimmick to get people talking about Criterion DVDs at the busiest selling time of the year.

It appears to be working.

Man this is fantastic! I held off buying all criterion dvd's waiting for this moment, that way I would not have to double dip. Now I can get them all at once!

As far as calling it a promotional gimmic, I can't beleive that the Hammer & Sickle newspaper has never done this before with their headlines.

I would've bought this, but I already have one of the DVDs.
