Not having the original to compare to, I'm sure you wouldn't notice it.

Why not? Didn't everyone notice it in the first place?

Did the DTS and DD tracks both have the problem? The new DTS track has plenty of LFE and surround activity, but I haven't really checked the DD track yet.

I should have said you may not notice it rather than you would not. I would imagine people noticed the superbit was inferior by comparing it to the original, corrected 5.1, not to mention we already knew that a defective track had been issued in the past. I don't know if both the DD and DTS were affected on the superbit, and that's great news that the new release has it fixed(though I haven't seen a comparison to the original corrected 5.1).

Are we still talking about the Leon DVD in a thread about The Fifth Element?

I think it's been assumed (at least on my part) the DTS tracks had the same flaws as the DD, but I haven't heard anyone compare the two and confirm whether it is just the DD track. On the standard release I noticed the increase of surround activity immediately after getting the corrected version.

Here is a quote about the superbit sound from totaldvd.net, though it is comparing to other region releases.

Quote:
The Dolby Digital sound mix is joined on this superbit outing by a DTS (768kbps) track. For some reason both mixes appear to be overly compressed in their presentation and do not exhibit the enveloping sound field found on the R2 and R3 editions. It appears that a different source has been used for this Columbia release and it is very noticeable. Both the DTS and Dolby tracks are strongly focussed on the front channels and the thunderous LFE present on other region versions has disappeared here sounding very flat.

So the DTS on the new collectors set sounds *better* than the DTS on the SB version? That's important to me...would love to hear some confirmation. and a PQ comparision naturally...

DVDtalk review Ian Jane says it appears to be fixed:

Though he did not compare to the original fixed version.

Also, check out the comments about the sound in his review:

They are in regular 2-disc keepcases with paper outer slipcovers.

Am I the only that thinks that the Leeloo pic looks NOTHING like Milla Jovovich? Can't believe that hasn't been mentioned (sorry if I missed it).
