Snippet:
The Eye is another high quality entry into the Asian horror Hall Of Fame, and is definitely worth checking out. The Pang brothers certainly know how to crank up the suspense, and do so without an over reliance on flashy special effects, managing instead with good old fashioned atmosphere and clever camera work. Sure, the script is pretty derivative, and the performances aren't world class, but the movie easily succeeds in its simple aims.
The two releases from Tartan are each a disappointment, frankly. The video transfers of both releases are really not up to scratch, and nowhere near the quality that we have a right to expect. The new release is certainly most impressive in terms of its soundtrack, with a superb multi-channel effort that blows away the basic stereo surround offering on the original disc. Whether you have Dolby Digital or DTS, crank up the volume and hide yourself behind the sofa, as this track really helps add to the atmosphere.
